🍔🍟 Speech Therapy = PLAY with PURPOSE 🎯

Look at this simple setup… and ALL the skills we’re targeting 👇

With just a pop toy + a few picture cards, we worked on:
✨ Vocabulary (hamburger, fries, pizza, salad, cookie)
✨ Requesting (“I want ___”)
✨ Following directions (“find pizza,” “put it in”)
✨ Matching + early categorization
✨ Turn-taking + engagement
✨ Articulation practice
• /f/ → “fries,” “food”
• /v/ → “veggies”
• /s/ blends → “slide,” “spin,” “stack”
• /g/ → “go,” “get”

And the BEST part? This sweet kiddo thought we were just playing 😄

This is your reminder that learning doesn’t have to be complicated. The magic happens when we take what kids LOVE (pop toys, food, colors, movement) and turn it into meaningful communication opportunities 💬

💡 Try this at home:
• Hold up 2 choices → “Do you want pizza or fries?”
• Pause and wait (this is HUGE!)
• Model simple words → “pizza,” “more,” “eat”
• Sneak in sound practice → “ffffries,” “go-go-go!”
• Celebrate ANY attempt to communicate 🙌

Little moments like this build BIG communication skills ❤️

Pretend play doesn’t have to be complicated to build BIG skills. 🧸✨

Today, tissues became tiny blankets for our stuffies. That’s it. Simple, inexpensive, and full of learning.

When children cover their stuffed animals, tuck them in, and care for them, they’re building:
• imagination
• sequencing skills
• early language
• social-emotional skills
• problem solving
• symbolic play

You can model simple language during play:
“Night night bear.”
“Cover baby.”
“Shh… sleeping.”
“Oh no, blanket fell off!”

The best learning moments are often the simplest ones right in front of us. 🤍

Hands-on learning for the win 🙌

We worked on letters using playdough, visuals, and sound practice—and it made such a difference. When kids can touch it, see it, and say it, it just clicks better.

A quick idea to try at home:
Roll out playdough letters, match them to a picture (A = apple, B = ball), and say the sound together as you build it. Keep it simple and playful.

This kind of learning keeps kids engaged and helps things stick without it feeling like “work” 😊

One of the not-so-glamorous but very important parts of creating therapy materials is cutting everything out after laminating. It may take time, but it’s worth it when materials become durable, reusable, and ready for years of learning and play!

From vocabulary cards and literacy activities to games and visual supports, every piece is prepared with purpose to create engaging therapy sessions for our kiddos. 💙

A lot of work happens behind the scenes before a child ever sits down in a therapy session—and this is part of it!

Fine motor + visual motor + shoulder strengthening all in one activity 👏

Painter’s tape on the wall, spikes, and a hedgehog toy = an easy therapy setup that keeps kids engaged while targeting:
• shoulder stability
• crossing midline
• bilateral coordination
• visual scanning
• fine motor precision
• following directions
• color and location concepts

Bonus: working on a vertical surface naturally encourages better posture and upper body strength! 💪🦔

Simple activities like this can build BIG foundational skills for learning and play, such as requesting and gesture use!

Learning doesn’t have to happen at a desk. ✨

Tape letters to the cabinet, grab a marker, and suddenly you’ve got movement, visual scanning, letter recognition, fine motor practice, and FUN all in one activity. 💛

Bonus? Activities like this also help build shoulder and upper body strength, which supports handwriting, posture, endurance, and overall motor development. 👏

Simple setups can target SO many developmental skills at once while keeping little learners engaged and motivated. 📚✨

Color sorting doesn’t have to be complicated to build BIG skills. 🌈🍎🌽

These little baskets are working on:
• color recognition
• categorizing
• vocabulary growth
• following directions
• attention + visual scanning
• early problem solving

And the best part? We can easily level it up! ⬇️

🗣️ Early learners:
“Put the yellow corn in the yellow basket.”

🗣️ Expanding language:
“I found an orange! It goes in the orange basket.”

🗣️ Older kids:
“Find something that is red AND starts with /b/.”
“Which basket has the most?”
“What other foods are yellow?”

Simple play activities like this build language naturally while keeping kids engaged and hands-on. 💛
