As I'm sure most have seen the road closure signs posted over the last couple weeks- Route 160 passed sheetz and before Seesetown Rd will be closed for at least 1 month which will cause a detour to get to FHPCH. That closure as posted-started yesterday. For those of you who may not have visited recently or may have missed the signs there is an approved detour posted with signs. We do not recommend using this detour to get to our facility.

If you are traveling in from 219:
We recommend getting off the St. Micheal exit and following Locust St (160) past the St. Micheal Catholic Church and make a left turn onto Lake rd. Follow Lake road past the park and flood museum all the way to the end (a stop sign at the bottom of the hill). At that stop sign make a right on to Frankstown road. In less than 1/2 a mile Frankstown road will make almost a 90 degree left turn DO NOT TURN. Instead keep going straight onto Plummer rd. Follow Plummer road for its entire length. At the stop sign at the end of Plummer road you will turn left onto 160 and you will be right by the turn onto 869 (the beaverdale stretch) to get to Humbert Rd.

If you are traveling in from Salix/Elton/Windber

Follow Forest Hills dr. through Elton and into Salix make the right hand turn between 1st summit bank and Miller Bus garage onto Peaceful Valley Rd. follow this road straight into Dunlo. At the stop sign in the middle of Dunlo (right next to the slovak club) continue straight up the hill and follow the road to the left at the top of the hill. You are now on Seesetown rd. Follow Seesetown road to the end. At the stop sign at the end of Seesetown road you will be facing Side Trackd bar. Turn right onto 160. Follow the signs to 869 and then turn left onto Humbert Rd.

If you have any questions please feel free to call or text me at 8142704015 I grew up here and will try to help you to the best of my ability.

To kick off summer we are planning something new we have never tried before! I have a huge blow up screen and projector that my kids and I use all summer long to have "Drive in" movie nights and I thought to myself "Wow, I bet the residents would really enjoy the nostalgia of a drive in!" When this idea was presented at the resident meeting it was met with resounding agreement and excitement. The leader team has worked hard since then coming up with a plan. We will be hosting a drive in movie on Friday June 19- Doors open at 7pm and the movie begins at dusk. We are requiring RSVPs to the event so we can make sure we have the space to accommodate everyone who would like to join us!

Important things to know:
-RSVP directly to Brie by phone or text at 8142704015 or by email.
-Residents are receiving their own free ticket and we are asking for a $1 donation per family member to benefit the Activity Department.
-Free popcorn will be available for everyone and we will be selling drinks for a monetary donation to benefit the Activity Department
- We request you bring your own lawn chair and blankets to have the coziest experience!
- The plan is to host in the courtyard however if we have a greater number of RSVPs will plan to utilize the top part of the parking lot and will have it roped off by the handicap parking and upper three spaces.
- What if it rains? Well the show must go on! In the event of inclement weather we will be transforming the "big" dining room into our own movie theater!

Our residents have already voted on this months movie and have chosen (by a vast margin) Fried Green Tomatoes!

We also plan on continuing this monthly! Next month we are planning a more "Kid friendly" choice of movies so all the little ones in your family can join in the fun!!

I really hope to see you all there!

Please reference the attached flyer or contact Brie with any questions

May 31, 1889 -
After days of relentless rain and hours of desperate efforts to save it, the South Fork Dam finally gave way.
The warnings stopped.
The battle was over.

In a matter of moments, an estimated 20 million tons of water burst through the breach and began racing down the narrow valley toward the communities.

Fourteen miles separated the dam from Johnstown, but distance offered little protection. The flood wave tore through South Fork, Mineral Point, East Conemaugh, Woodvale, and other communities before reaching the city itself.

For many, there was no time to escape.
Some ran for higher ground.
Some climbed to rooftops.
Some watched in disbelief as entire buildings were lifted from their foundations and carried away.

By the time the waters settled, more than 2,200 people would be dead, making the Johnstown Flood one of the deadliest disasters in American history.
The valley would rebuild.
But it would never be the same.

Today, we remember those who faced the unimaginable on this afternoon 137 years ago.

Friday we watched "I was there" -a short documentary presented by the History Channel on the Johnstown flood. We also recounted our own stories from the 1977 flood. You are never too old to learn, share, and honor those who were lost.

Making flowers arrangements is not only fun and creative-it is extremely beneficial in so many ways! Flower arrangements are a wonderful way to exercise fine motor function and keep our fingers nimble. Additionally it makes our minds work! Everyone is given verbal instructions and prompting on what color flower and how many of that color to add to their arrangements. This small exercise helps with color recognition, patterns, listening and following prompts, and so much more! The best part is.... it is fun! There is no wrong way to do it and even though everyone has the same instructions- everyone ends up with a uniquely beautiful result!

The smiles speak for themselves!

We are so grateful to Mr. Parlock and the 7th and 8th grade chorus for their wonderful concert this morning! It was the perfect way to start our day! Music therapy provides significant benefits for Alzheimer’s patients by reducing agitation, anxiety, and depression while improving mood and cognitive function. It acts as an effective, non-pharmacological tool to aid memory recall, foster social interaction, and manage behavioral issues. Even in late-stage dementia, familiar music can foster connection and improve quality of life. Starting our day hearing such wonderful songs and seeing so many smiling faces was a real treat! fh_aroundther
