Evolved Movement

Evolved Movement Taking a class or workshop with Kristy today involves the perfect blend of structure and freedom.

With 20 years of group fitness experience, Kristy creates a welcoming space for her students who often feel transformed by session’s end. Kristy McNaughton, a former Division 1 field hockey player, was also a three sport athlete. After collegiate field hockey came to an end, Kristy missed the camaraderie the team environment provided and felt isolated. Much reflection on her part revealed that she

had a difficult time determining who she was other than an athlete. Eventually Kristy discovered a passion for Pilates and began her physical fitness training in that regimen. In 2006 she obtained her Mat Pilates certification out of Boston, began teaching classes, and regained that “team connection” immediately. Her students became her team, as they met weekly for group fitness classes. Through group fitness she found that she loved helping others improve their level of fitness, and finding their own inner athlete all over again on the mat. Kristy acquired a certification in Group Fitness in 2010, and thereafter became a Certified Personal Trainer through the World Instructors Training School. In 2016 she fell in love with Les Mills, a renowned world-leading group fitness company, through their brilliant choreography, and music. That same year she obtained her Combat, and HITT training certification. In 2018 Kristy went to Kripalu, the largest yoga-based retreat center in North America, and trained under Toni Bergins obtaining her Journey Dance Module I Apprentice Program Certification. In 2019 she completed a level one Thai Yoga Massage Training, and is also an RYT, 200 hour yoga certified instructor, learning from one of her greatest mentor’s Melaine Burns, located in Wiscasset, Maine. With 15 years of group fitness experience, Kristy creates a welcoming space for her students who often feel transformed by session’s end. Her love for creativity shines through with her own unique blend incorporating multiple modalities into one class. Each body and soul will respond to her unique and holistic approach to teaching fitness. All levels of being will be empowered and transformed — physically, emotionally, and spiritually, and her positive vibes ripple through her teaching allowing students to find their own personal power. When not teaching fitness, Kristy is teaching personal finance to high school students, introducing them to tools and concepts that will empower them to make wise financial choices in the future. McNaughton obtained her Master’s Degree in Teaching from the University of Maine at Orono in 2003 and began teaching high school that same year. Her love of fitness incited her to initiate a yoga fusion elective course in the school, which she herself teaches. Kristy enjoys time with her family and friends, hiking, swimming, gardening, relaxing at camp and, most memorably, free dancing with her children. Her favorite vacation activity is to visit other fitness studios because, according to Kristy, the best way to enhance her teaching is to take classes from amazing instructors around the country.

Last night at Evolve was one of those spaces that stays with me.

We moved together, we rested together, and we even sang together. There’s something so powerful about women allowing themselves to be fully seen in real time, without needing to have it all figured out.

I want to first acknowledge the women who showed up for their very first Evolve experience. This work can feel unfamiliar, uncomfortable, and vulnerable, and still, you said yes.

Something I’ve been exploring lately is the relationship between fierceness and tenderness within myself, and decided to bring it into last nights theme.

Maybe you can relate......Fierceness has always been part of me, growth, achievement, momentum, becoming. I still carry that fire, but I’ve learned that when I live there too long, it can lead to burnout, unhealthy tendencies, and resentment.

So I softened, and in that I discovered something else too: too much softness can slowly turn into complacency.

What I’m learning now is that the real practice is emotional awareness.

Not choosing one or the other as superior, but leaning into the paradox, learning how to listen. To notice what’s needed in each moment, and build the capacity to respond to myself with honesty and grace, a life long practice.

That’s what we practice in this space. Not perfection, presence.

And last night was a beautiful reminder of that.

If you’ve been feeling the pull toward going deeper into this work, the Women’s Retreat in Denmark, Maine | July 17–19 is coming up soon.

This is a weekend to slow down even further, out of the noise, out of the roles, and back into relationship with yourself. Send a DM to learn more.

Grateful for every woman who showed up last night. 💛

Thank you Hippie Hollie Body Products for bringing your blends, and The Lakeside Lodge at Bangs Beach for hosting us. Please tag yourself if I missed you.

One of my favorite parts of this work is witnessing the shift.

Women arrive from different places, (California, Connecticut, Massachusetts) gathered to celebrate the bride to be.

And somewhere between the movement, the laughter, the dancing, and simply feeling safe enough to let their guards down… something beautiful happens.

By the end, the women who arrived as friends of the bride left feeling like one circle.⭕️

There is something so powerful about women gathering to love and celebrate another woman, and in the process, feeling more connected to themselves and each other.

And as always, I love leaving and feeling the energy has changed, everyone a little softer, more grounded, and more in their bodies.

✨ Maine magic never disappoints. 💛

🌿 This one’s all about the heart.

Blindfolded, we let the heart feel the confusion, the truth that pulls one way, then slips away.

We let the heart carry its heaviness, roaring like something fierce and tired.

We let the heart be rocked, held, reminded it’s allowed to be soft again.

We let the heart slowly open, wings, light, arrival.

And then we let the heart dance, wide, alive, unarmored, finally free.

No choreography. Just songs that know exactly where the heart lives.

I love finding music that meets the heart right there, so when the body moves, it’s not thinking. It’s just feeling.

If your heart has been waiting for a place to be honest, heavy, tender, and then wildly open…
this is for you.

Coming soon.

Last night, a quiet thank you note from a participant melted my heart: her 10-year-old self, the one she thought was gone, came alive again in our circle. Pure, unfiltered joy returned. I felt it too.

At a recent retreat, someone dropped to the dance floor mid-movement and made snow angels right there. It reminded me how simple playfulness can heal. Then, stepping outside with a friend, she said, “I feel great... I just want to make snow angels now!”

These moments aren’t random. The real medicine? Being together, moving, sharing music, witnessing each other with kindness. No pills or trends needed. Just heart-nourishing connection.

The child within waits for safe spaces to play, laugh, and feel joy without judgment.

That’s why this months theme: "Nourish Your Heart" will call us back to simplicity, play, and soulful togetherness.
