Parent Question Monday

Big emotions and frequent meltdowns can be overwhelming for both children and parents.

Play therapy gives children a safe space to express what they are feeling, build coping skills, and learn healthier ways to manage difficult emotions.

Sometimes behavior is communication. Play therapy helps children work through what is underneath the behavior in a developmentally appropriate way.

Arkansas Association for Play Therapy supports children, families, and play therapists across Arkansas.

Choosing an LAC can be an excellent option for individuals, couples, and families seeking professional counseling at a more affordable rate.

Private pay with an LAC is often comparable to—or even less than—the out-of-pocket cost of using insurance once deductibles, copays, and coinsurance are considered. It also offers additional benefits, including greater privacy, no insurance-required mental health diagnosis, and more flexibility in your treatment.

Many limit-setting approaches offer a script. Circle of Security asks a different question: what does your child need from you right now?

Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or like your thoughts are moving a little too fast?

The 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique is a simple coping skill that can help bring your attention back to the present moment by using your five senses.

In this video, I walk you through how to practice it:
👀 5 things you can see
✋ 4 things you can feel
👂 3 things you can hear
👃 2 things you can smell
👅 1 thing you can taste

Grounding doesn’t make the stressful situation disappear—but it can give your mind and body a moment to slow down, reconnect with the present, and decide what you need next.

Save this video for a moment when you need a quick grounding exercise.

Her areas of focus include:
• Pregnancy & postpartum mental health
• Postpartum anxiety & depression
• Birth trauma & difficult pregnancy experiences
• Anxiety, overwhelm & chronic stress
• Trauma & difficult life experiences

Allison’s approach is warm, collaborative, and trauma-informed. She trained in EMDR and practices ACT, CBT, and play therapy.

Whether you’re a woman trying to feel more like yourself again or a parent looking for support for your child, Allison believes therapy should be a place where you feel genuinely heard, supported, and understood.
