Pregnancy can become complicated when a mama is managing diabetes, hypertension, an autoimmune condition, or another high-risk diagnosis.
But a diagnosis should not automatically mean giving up breastfeeding goals or missing the Golden Hour.
Our upcoming workshop, "Defying the Diagnosis: Breastfeeding & Navigating High-Risk Pregnancy," is a practical, evidence-based conversation that will help mamas and those who care for them better understand how to navigate complex medical conditions AND enjoy the many benefits of breastfeeding, skin-to-skin, and the Golden Hour after birth.
Led by Dr. Cassandra E. Henderson, MD, a board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist with more than four decades of clinical and academic experience. She currently chairs the Pregnancy and Reproductive Health Interest Group of the American Diabetes Association and the OB/GYN Section of the National Medical Association.
Dr. Henderson will address:
• How to recognize factors that may delay lactogenesis or complicate breastfeeding
• Ways to protect the Golden Hour and support uninterrupted skin-to-skin
• Common questions about medications and breastfeeding
• How to advocate for care that addresses the needs of the mama and her goals.
Continuing Education:
Nurses may earn 1 Nursing CE.
Doulas may earn 1 Contact Hour.
