The old stereotype that autistic people lack feelings or empathy is overly simplistic. Some autistic people experience very strong emotional or affective empathy, even when recognizing, interpreting, or outwardly responding to another person’s emotions may work differently. Autism researcher Tony Attwood has also written about some autistic people being unusually sensitive to others’ emotions.
