Recently, members of our ForMotion Clinics global team visited local clinics, spending time with patients like Ross in Silver Spring and Joanne in Annapolis. Moments like these are a reminder that care goes beyond technology. It’s about relationships, trust, and showing up.

Progress in motion. 💙

We’re excited to share the next chapter of Hala’s journey. With continued gait training and real-world practice, she’s building strength with every step. Check out what progress truly looks like: focused work, determination, and meaningful movement.

As Hala continues adapting to her bionic knee following osseointegration, each session brings her closer to her goals of seamless, everyday mobility. Her commitment not only drives her own success but also contributes valuable insights that help shape the future of prosthetic care.

New normal. Adaptive sports. New words and new worlds to an amputee. The world of adaptive sports keeps growing and the people behind those sports, participants, volunteers and coaches are truly amazing.
MCOP recently attended an event at the newly remodeled Annapolis Maritime Museum sponsored by Adaptive Rowing Annapolis.
Together with the Annapolis Rowing Club, Steve and Amelia coach and instruct Rowing. In their own words: the goal is simple: to enhance the lives of people with physical and cognitive disabilities by making the sport of rowing more accessible, fostering independence, freedom of movement, and fun for all. No limits, no boundaries!
How can you help the Adaptive Rowing program? Simple: volunteer, spread the word and donate.

This patient is missing his 5th digit- his pinky finger. Try getting a grip on something with no pinky there to help out. - it's not easy!
He works at a local manufacturing plant- lifting heavy items, operating heavy machinery, and uses a hammer and other tools daily. In his free time, he enjoys fishing. A steady grip is important in his daily life.
The prosthesis he is wearing is a MCP Driver from Naked Prosthetics. It allows the patient a stronger grip, improved hand dexterity, ability to hold smaller items and safer/more efficient use of tools at work.
Design of MCP driver incorporates stainless steel linkages, custom carbon rings fit to fingers and wrist strap. The lightweight materials offer high durability and strength, are easy to put on and not at all cumbersome.
The patient has found his new device to be a lifesaver at work. He can hold a hammer and other hand tools steady and safely now. AND, with that steady grip, the fish are biting again!!

It sometimes takes a lot of hands to get the job done when you are an Upper Extremity Specialist working with amputees.
Each hand has different features/benefits so it is important to know your patient, their needs, their lifestyles, what they like to do, what they want to do and sometimes see a need they may not even know they have.
Jamie Vandersea is the Upper Extremity Specialist at MCOP, and he is all hands-on deck! What's in his bag? Here are some of his choices.
The Ability Hand by Psyonic is fast, tough, lightweight and multi-articulated
The Zeus Hand by Aether Boimedical offers one of the highest grip strengths on the market
Taska Hand-very durable, waterproof and robust
iTouch by Ossur - most advanced titanium hand, multi-articulating hand with five individually powered digits and a wide selection of automated grips and gestures.
Jamie is always there to help and works with the patient to make sure all is good; they are comfortable with their choices and well trained on the device.

One of the things MCOP does very well is custom sockets. It's a great way for an amputee to express themselves. BUT, rarely, almost never, do you see a decorated test socket.
Helen's limb loss was trauma induced. In 2018 she lost her left leg above the knee.
When she began the process of being fit for a prosthetic, her 2 young daughters asked if they could decorate her test socket. After all, to them it was a blank canvas and needed a little glam!
Helen quickly agreed, seeing it as the perfect opportunity to make them a part of the process, help them understand her limb loss and allowed her to openly discuss what the family was going thru while they were busy decorating her socket.
So now they share this process with their mom using paint, sharpies, stickers, mod podge and glitter to create a beautiful test socket with hearts, ocean themes, rainbows, sunshine, personal messages to their mom and glitter of course for the sparkle. and their mom wears it with a very warm heart.
Touching, real, sweet and oh so creative in so many ways.

Scott has a trans-humeral level amputation, the result of car accident many years ago. His body powered prosthesis was about 15 years old, really wasn't functioning well and did not fit well making it very uncomfortable and not at all practical.
Scott came to MCOP Boston after seeing one of our social media posts showing the high carbon finish on an upper extremity prosthesis. He wanted to get a replacement body powered prosthesis to assist with daily activities and avocational activities which included cycling.
Scot worked with Brian Waryck, the upper extremity specialist in Boston, and received a completely new body powered prosthesis and different terminal devices including the V2P, the Criterium Pivot and the JAWS terminal device.
He is wearing the V2P device in the pictures. It's lightweight and provides good all-around functionality.
Scott now wears his body powered prothesis all day long and has been comfortable and completely happy with its fit and functionality!

This MCOP patient is embracing his new normal.............................all of it.
A new custom Above Knee socket with Rheo Knee.
He is continuing his longtime support of his beloved Washington Redskins by decorating his new socket with their new name- The Washington Commanders.
Custom sockets at MCOP; all day every day, it's our pleasure.
