What is Vision Therapy

Optometric Vision Therapy is the art and science of improving and enhancing visual and vision information processing skills so that the individual achieves the best possible visual performance and comfort in all daily activities. Holding/reading material very close (7 to 8 inches away)
Closing or covering one eye while reading
Squinting while doing near work
Con

stant poor posture when working close
Poor attention span
Homework takes longer than expected to finish
Intermittent double vision
Words appear to move or “float” on the page
Losing place while reading or significant head movement while reading
Irregular letter or word spacing; Reversing letters and/or numbers
Headaches after reading or near work
Avoids reading/frustrates easily with near visual tasks
Poor comprehension of written material
Rereading, omitting, or skipping words while reading
Below average reading skills

Through a series of therapy procedures programmed by the doctor, patients improve their ability to function. In Vision Therapy, we do not “train the eyes or eye muscles” but rather re-educate the brain so that the eyes can work together as a team. Individuals who have good visual skills read faster with less effort, understand more of what they read, and retain information longer. Athletes who use their vision effectively see things more quickly, evaluate relative position more accurately, exhibit less fatigue, and demonstrate enhanced overall performance. Here at Center for Visual Learning, we are committed to providing the services needed to develop and enhance visual skills. The subsequent improvements in the processing of visual information benefit all areas of life: school, sports, home, work, and creativity.

Meet Gabriel!

Before Vision Therapy, sports were frustrating. Gabriel had difficulty tracking the ball, which made catching and hitting challenging. Participating in games wasn't always as fun as he wanted it to be.

Today, Gabriel is enjoying sports with newfound confidence.

"Now I can hit the pickleball and play football with Dad!"

We're so proud of Gabriel and the progress he's made through Vision Therapy. Strong visual skills don't just help in the classroom—they can also make a big difference on the field, the court, and during everyday activities.

Way to go, Gabriel!

Parent Success Story: Lanae & Brecken

Before Vision Therapy, Lanae noticed several challenges affecting Brecken's daily life. He often struggled to focus on the camera during photos, making family pictures difficult. Reading was choppy and frustrating, and he frequently missed words. Getting him to sit down and read was often a challenge.

After Vision Therapy, the changes have been remarkable.

Now, Brecken can easily focus on the camera, making picture-taking much simpler. He's more willing to read, and his reading has become smoother and more confident. Lanae has also noticed improvements in his ability to stay focused during activities and games.

One of the biggest wins? His teacher has noticed the difference, too, sharing that Brecken is more focused in the classroom.

"His reading and pronouncing words are smoother and overall have really improved. He seems more confident."

We're so proud of Brecken's hard work and grateful to be part of his journey. Seeing children gain confidence both in and out of the classroom is what makes Vision Therapy so rewarding.

Meet Brecken!

Before Vision Therapy, Brecken noticed that reading became more difficult as the day went on. He would skip lines while reading and had trouble copying information from the whiteboard at school.

Today, things look very different.

"My vision is good at the end of the day. I do a better job at reading."

We're so proud of the hard work Brecken put into his Vision Therapy program and the progress he's made along the way. Helping children build stronger visual skills can make a meaningful difference in the classroom, during homework, and in everyday life.

Way to go, Brecken!

Stacy, Owen’s Mom, shared their experience with Vision Therapy:

Before Vision Therapy, Owen had trouble focusing on words while reading. He would often look at the first letter, guess the middle, and sometimes get the ending right. He frequently had to reread sentences to understand them and didn’t enjoy reading.

After Vision Therapy, Owen can now focus on each word and all its parts, allowing him to read more accurately and move through sentences with confidence. He rarely skips words, doesn’t need to reread to understand, and—best of all—he’s started to enjoy reading!

We love seeing the confidence and progress our patients gain through Vision Therapy.

If your child struggles with reading or visual focus, Vision Therapy may help build the skills needed for success. Contact our office to learn more or schedule an evaluation.

Vision Therapy Success Story: Mia

Before starting Vision Therapy, this student shared that reading words and numbers was difficult, and even riding a bike felt challenging.

After completing Vision Therapy, things started to change:
“Now riding my bike is easy, and I like riding my bike to school. I can read better and math is better too.”

We love seeing how improved visual skills can make everyday activities—like reading, learning, and even riding a bike—feel easier and more enjoyable.

Before Vision Therapy:
“Alivia would try to get out of reading and writing. She complained of headaches and her eyes hurting. She mixed up letters, ran words together, or guessed at words. She constantly moved the book back and forth to try to focus and would get frustrated easily and want to give up.”

After Vision Therapy:
“Alivia is much more confident, not only in reading and writing, but in all of her classwork at school. She no longer complains of headaches or eye pain. Her writing is neater and more legible. She takes her time and doesn’t get frustrated like before. In just 3 months, she moved up 2 grade levels in reading. Each month, we could see improvements in her focus and time management. She loved vision therapy with Kylie!”
-Dani (Mom)

👏 Incredible progress! We’re so proud of Alivia and grateful to support her journey!

Vision Therapy Success Story: Chris’s Mom

Before Vision Therapy, Chris struggled with ‘near’ objects and reading. He masked his difficulties well, but I could tell he struggled. His right eye would always seem to turn out when focusing on things far away and he had a hard time bringing his eye back in.”

With Vision Therapy, He has much better control over his right eye. It’s still not ‘perfect,’ but he’s more aware of when it turns out and corrects it more readily. He still masks some struggles, but it has gotten significantly better. His confidence, especially with reading, has really improved.”

-Andrea (Mom)

👏 We’re so proud of Chris’s growth!
