We are half way into this year’s Heroes and Horses Youth program.

Unfortunately, I’m (Alecia) sitting at the Bozeman airport making this post. I have to fly back home to attend meetings to kick off the new school year. Brian & Scout get to stay for the rest of the week & soak it in.

This program is all about the triumph of the human spirit.

Allowing humans from all walks of life who have been impacted by heavy life events to step foot on the ranch & be gifted with experiences to allow them to recalibrate & remember their inner strength.

There are so many connections made during the time here. To the land. To the food. To the participants. To the leaders. To the horses. But most importantly to themselves.

The youth program is extra special to me because it shows kids who have been through a lot how it feels to be successful doing hard things. What it feels like to have people around you who truly believe in you & are cheering you on. They connect with their horses. And how to have reverence & respect for others & situations while also having time for play & fun. And at the end of the long & often hard days, they lay their heads down feeling proud of all they’ve done.

I think in our mental health world we get so caught up in the story & worried about what people have been through that we forget all they are capable of. Our compassionate hearts lower the bar & end up looking at our fellow humans with pity & as victims. We diminish their capacity to grow & experience their own form of greatness because of this “compassion”.

Here on the ranch, there’s compassion coupled with seeing the person truly for who & what they are: a divine being here to alchemize their life experiences & to do great things. To feel joy & to learn that they are so capable of doing challenging tasks especially when they have people (adults & peers) all around them mirroring back to them the belief in themselves they may have forgotten.

I’m so grateful for this experience. For showing up as both a facilitator & a student who continues to learn from each person I meet.

These boys will leave as different people. I wish I could be there to see them off. 💞

Huaca de Prieta (15,000 years old) & El Brujo Complex. Nothing intrigues me more as this dates back to the edge of antiquity as we know it. A ceremonial site since the beginning of civilization. Here the god Aiapec represents both “the creator” and the “decapitator god” showing the fine line between harnessing the raw power of nature and human sacrifice. We call it “the fall from grace.” This is by far one of the most powerful and humbling places I’ve stood in, and a perfect setup for what’s to come at Chavin. Epic beyond the imagination. ✨🔥✨

As plant medicine becomes more a thing, probably the single most important factor is the facilitator. #1 to us bringing people to Peru was integrity. We’re not the shaman and we have never had the desire to facilitate plant ceremony. It wasn’t until I reconnected with Victor Martin after 18 years that we had the full permission to do these Journeys. There’s nobody I trust more, and even better he accompanies us alongside his amazing wife Margarita. Martin leads and Margarita is always in the back ensuring “Cuidado”… care. He does not call himself a shaman, he calls himself a “carver.” As that’s his core trade. But his ties to Huachuma mesa and the temple of Chavin are as deep as they get. His father worked with archeologists in the temple for decades. He lived in the temple for 24 years. He understands the lineage and the medicine like no other, and best of all, he comes from 100% the heart centered energy of Love. Nice to get back to our normal routine with a quick drive up to Heroes and Horses in Montana, and South Dakota Yoga Gathering in the Black Hills. Stopped at an epic saloon in Sheridan, and got early 4th of July vibes in the hills. What a beautiful country, and of course it wouldn’t be SD without a pheasant flying practically through the windshield, thankfully on the last leg home. Pure adventure, epic community, and high vibes!

Hi everyone!

Next weekend (June 27th and 28th), we are back at the South Dakota Yoga Gathering in the Black Hills.

We host a session on Sunday morning and it’s all about reconnecting with your divine nature.

And be sure to bring your swim suit!

We will begin with a breathwork and sound immersion in the beauty of nature, allowing you to go deeply within and beyond the veil of the ego and the chatter of the monkey mind. Then we’ll be going into the stream together as a group and connecting with the force within, as you feel the force of nature around you.

The coolness of the water on a crisp morning will invigorate your senses and remind you of how adaptable the body and mind are. It will make you feel so alive! You will remember how these gifts of the body do best when gently challenged with love and acceptance.

We’ll have the scents of grass, trees, and flowers. The sounds of birds, bugs, and the stream. The feeling of the grass and the sun. The community of support and connection. We’ll then add our own flair with scents, sounds, and guided breathwork and cold therapy to amplify the experience.

It’s going to be incredible!

So... if you are joining us, be sure to wear a swimsuit under your clothes, pack a towel, and bring clothes to change into afterward.

And be sure to check out the line-up of the other incredible sessions being offered all weekend. There are still spots available if you want tickets to attend. It’s their 10th year doing this and it’s done so well. Everything is so intentional, accessible, and rooted in yoga.
