💙 September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

Prostate cancer may not always cause obvious warning signs, which makes paying attention to changes in your urologic health important.

Symptoms that should be discussed with your healthcare provider can include:
🔹 Difficulty urinating or a weakened urine stream
🔹 Increased frequency of urination
🔹 Blood in the urine or semen
🔹 Pelvic or lower back pain
🔹 Erectile dysfunction

These symptoms can also be associated with other urologic conditions, including BPH, so experiencing them does not necessarily mean you have prostate cancer. Getting evaluated can help determine what's causing them and what comes next.

Meet Joni Sengos, DNP! ✨

We’re excited to spotlight Joni Sengos, DNP, who joined Urology Specialists in 2025 and brings 11 years of experience as a nurse practitioner to our team!

Originally from Pierre, SD, Joni earned her nursing degree from the University of South Dakota and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from South Dakota State University. She is certified through the AANP and is licensed to practice in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa.

Outside of work, Joni enjoys spending quality time with her family and traveling together.

Who else is counting down the days?!?

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Grant Van der Voort to Urology Specialists!

Dr. Van der Voort earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Spanish from Boston College before receiving his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He completed his urology residency at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, followed by advanced fellowship training in Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery at Loyola Medicine.

His specialized fellowship training allows him to provide expert care for patients with complex reconstructive urologic conditions, bringing an added level of expertise to our team.

We’re proud to have Dr. Van der Voort joining our team in September and look forward to serving patients in Sioux Falls, SD, and Appleton, MN!

Meet Eric Traviss, CNP! Eric has more than 20 years of healthcare experience and has been part of the Sioux Falls community since 2005. He began his career as a surgical technologist before earning his BSN from the University of Iowa and MSN as a Certified Nurse Practitioner from Briar Cliff University. Eric joined Urology Specialists in 2021.

When he’s not caring for patients, Eric enjoys spending time at the lake and camping with family and friends.
