I received my doctorate from the University of Chicago and have been on the staff of the departments of Child Psychiatry at Michael Reese Hospital and the University of Chicago. I work with adults and adolescents in individual and family therapy, provide mediation focused on developing child centered parenting plans, and serve as a Coach to men attempting to navigate the challenges of divorce. PSY
CHOTHERAPY WITH ADULTS
Coaching, therapy or counseling should be a dynamic partnership focused on increasing self-awareness by identifying patterns that get in the way of achieving goals. Concerns that people present include those related to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, sexuality and unhappiness about relationships. CHILDADOLESCENT THERAPY
I work with older children and adolescents to identify and resolve issues related to low self-esteem, social skills, behavioral difficulties, depression, anxiety and confusion about sexuality. I enjoy kids and find that many who are frightened by the idea of seeing a therapist are more comfortable considering me to be a coach. I understand that parents worry about their children, especially when they are in pain, and always try to be responsive to their concerns and questions. Some of this work includes parent-child therapy in situations when a child or adolescent refuses contact with one of his or her parents. THERAPY/COACHING WITH MEN
In addition to extensive work over the years with families experiencing the many challenges of divorce, I work with men invested in becoming more authentic partners and fathers. I also work with men negotiating difficult life transitions such as divorce, career change, fatherhood, loss of a partner/spouse, and with single and married men who are in turmoil about their sexuality. SERVICES FOR FAMILIES IN TRANSITION
Child Focused Mediation: We know that parents who develop their own parenting plan – rather than have it imposed by the court - are more successful in working collaboratively with each other after divorce. I assist parents in resolving disagreements related to custody, co-parenting schedules and post-divorce disagreements. Co-Parenting Counseling: I work with separated and divorced parents help them to communicate successfully about their children and to make decisions for them. I understand that transitioning from a marital relationship to a co-parenting relationship can be a difficult process and am sensitive to the many feelings stirred up by separation and divorce. "Divorce" is just a word that embodies a myriad of losses, e.g., hopes, dreams, one's self image -to name a few. Child Custody Consultation: I work with parents in crafting a parenting plan that meets the needs of their children and their family. This work often involves meeting the children and obtaining information from other professionals involved with the family. This process differs from mediation in that parents ask me to provide recommendations. And, it differs from an evaluation ordered by the court in that it is voluntary and private. INSURANCE AND BILLING
I am not on any other insurance panels. However, if you have a PPO policy it is most likely that your insurance provider will reimburse you for a portion of my services. Please check your coverage with your insurance provider. Divorce services other than those related to counseling are not covered by insurance. I currently work remotely.
