We’re excited to share that Sleepy Eye Medical Center’s cardiovascular rehabilitation program has been certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR)!

This certification recognizes programs that demonstrate a commitment to high-quality patient care, evidence-based practices and meaningful patient outcomes. AACVPR-certified programs are recognized as leaders in the cardiovascular rehabilitation field.

We’re especially proud of those team members who dedicated their expertise to this intensive certification process. A job well-done!

Caring for today. Preparing for what’s next.

We’re taking the next steps in exploring an expansion of Sleepy Eye Medical Center that would provide additional clinic and emergency care space, an expanded and updated surgical department, and more exam rooms and medical staff offices.

At the heart of this work are our patients. We’re proud of the care we provide today and grateful for the people who helped make that care possible. Now, as our community and healthcare needs change, we’re thinking carefully about how we can build on what we have and continue to provide the care our patients count on.

There’s more work to do as we move through the planning process, but we’re encouraged by where things are headed and look forward to sharing more along the way!

Every feeding journey is unique, and every family does what works best for them. This week, we're recognizing World Breastfeeding Week by celebrating the moms who have navigated breastfeeding—the joys, the challenges, and everything in between.

📣 Exciting news for our community!

Thanks to the dedication of Jamie Heiderscheidt, our Diabetic Education RN, along with several community partners and volunteers, Sleepy Eye will soon be offering SAIL (Stay Active and Independent for Life)—a FREE, evidence-based program that helps improve strength, balance, and confidence while reducing the risk of falls.

Designed for adults ages 55+ (but open to everyone), SAIL is a fun, welcoming way to stay active, meet new people, and move at your own pace.

Stop by the Open House on Thursday, August 20, at 9 a.m. at the Sleepy Eye Community Center, or simply come to the first class a few minutes early to complete the registration paperwork.

Classes begin Tuesday, August 25, and will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9–10 a.m. at the Sleepy Eye Community Center.

Welcome, Janessa, OTD, OTR/L! 👋

We're excited to welcome Janessa to the Sleepy Eye Medical Center Occupational Therapy team!

Janessa joined us this summer and enjoys working with patients of all ages, helping them build the skills, confidence, and independence to participate in the activities that matter most to them. She looks forward to the variety that comes with practicing in a rural healthcare setting and the opportunity to make a difference across every stage of life.

When asked what drew her to SEMC, Janessa shared, "I was drawn to the welcoming atmosphere and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with both patients and coworkers."

We're so glad she's part of our team! If you see Janessa around SEMC, be sure to say hello and give her a warm welcome!

Last night's emergency response drill on Sleepy Eye Lake brought together the Sleepy Eye Fire Department, Sleepy Eye Ambulance Service, Sleepy Eye Police Department, Brown County Sheriff's Office, Minnesota, Brown County Public Health (observers), and Sleepy Eye Medical Center for a realistic training exercise that tested our coordinated response to a simulated boating accident.

While this was only a drill, the teamwork, communication, and commitment demonstrated by everyone involved were very real.

Exercises like this allow us to train side by side, strengthen relationships, identify what went well, recognize opportunities for improvement, and continue building an even stronger emergency response system for our community.

A sincere thank you to everyone who played a part!

Preparedness isn't built in a single moment--it's built through planning, practice, collaboration and a shared commitment to serving others.

We're proud to partner with our local emergency response agencies for this important community disaster drill tomorrow evening.

Exercises like these help us strengthen coordination, communication, and preparedness so we're ready to provide the best possible care when real emergencies happen.

The Sleepy Eye Police Department, Fire Department, Ambulance Service, and Medical Center will conduct a joint training drill on Sleepy Eye Lake on July 22 at 6:00 p.m. This exercise simulates a boat accident and water rescue, including the transport of mock victims to the hospital. These drills are vital for public safety, helping local emergency responders sharpen their skills and improve future crisis response.

The public is invited to watch the simulation. For safety, spectators must avoid the beach and the service road on the southeast side of the lake, and the Sportsman’s Park public access. The best viewing location is along the bike trail that runs parallel to Highway 4.

The drill will be postponed should there be inclement weather or unfavorable lake water conditions.
