Meet Our Somatic Experiencing® Clinicians

Healing doesn't always begin with finding the right words.

Sometimes it begins with noticing a breath, feeling your feet on the floor, or helping your nervous system recognize that you're safe in the present moment.

Our Somatic Experiencing® Practitioners and trained clinicians help individuals gently reconnect with their body's natural capacity for regulation and healing. This approach can be especially supportive for those navigating trauma, chronic stress, anxiety, and the lasting effects of overwhelming experiences.

Every person's journey is unique, and our clinicians are committed to moving at a pace that honors your story and your nervous system.

☀️ Our team recently stepped away from the office for an NSFC Team & Family Beach Day, hosted by our leadership team! We enjoyed good food, time by the water, meaningful connection, and, of course, a little friendly competition over Jenga. 🤍

At NSFC, we believe strong teams are built not only through the work we do together, but through the relationships we cultivate along the way. Moments like these give us an opportunity to connect and live out the Core Values that guide our practice:

🌱 Humility — Valuing the people around us.
🤝 Integrity — Building relationships rooted in trust.
💙 Commitment — Investing in our team and community.
🌊 Stewardship — Caring well for our people and relationships.
☀️ Play — Making room for joy, laughter, and connection.

Our Core Values shape not only how we care for our clients, but how we show up for one another and intentionally build a healthy, connected team.

We’re grateful for time spent together, and for the family and friends who joined us and support our team along the way. 🤍

Here’s a glimpse into a special day together. 📸 And judging by these photos, we take that last Core Value pretty seriously. 😉

Internal Family Systems® can help people approach themselves with curiosity rather than criticism.

Many of the parts we struggle with today once developed to help us survive. Understanding those parts can open the door to lasting healing.

At Northshore Family Counseling, our team honors holistic healing of the whole person, including all of our parts.

"I know what happened… so why do I keep reacting this way?"

Sometimes the hardest part isn't understanding what happened; rather, it's understanding why certain reactions still show up.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is based on the idea that we all have different "parts" of ourselves. Some parts try to protect us from being hurt again, while others carry painful emotions or experiences from the past.

You might notice these parts as:
✨ a strong inner critic
✨ people-pleasing
✨ shutting down during conflict
✨ feeling stuck in the same patterns

In therapy, we don't try to get rid of these parts. Instead, we approach them with curiosity and compassion, helping you better understand yourself and create lasting change.

Healing isn't about becoming someone different. Healing is about reconnecting with the wisdom, confidence, and calm that already exists within you.

At Northshore Family Counseling, we're honored to walk alongside individuals as they discover greater self-understanding, healing, and hope.

🎉 A BIG congratulations is in order for our team 🎉

We are thrilled to celebrate two of our clinicians, Emily Burglass and Amanda Williams, officially earned their Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP) credential this week after 2½ years of intensive training and dedication! 👏💙

This achievement represents countless hours of learning, personal growth, and commitment to providing the highest quality trauma-informed care.

With these new credentials, alongside Ilsa Araki, SEP, Northshore Family Counseling Services now has 4 Somatic Experiencing trained clinicians and 3 SEPs serving clients across Louisiana and Mississippi.

Somatic Experiencing® is a body-oriented approach to healing trauma and chronic stress that helps individuals restore regulation to the nervous system, build resilience, and move toward lasting healing.

We are incredibly proud of our clinicians and honored to continue expanding access to specialized, evidence-informed trauma therapy for our communities.

Please join us in congratulating our newest SEPs on this remarkable milestone! 🎊💚

Have you ever noticed yourself...

• feeling "on" all the time?

• becoming overwhelmed by sounds, crowds, or stress?

• struggling to relax, even when life is calm?

• experiencing anxiety before your mind knows why?

• feeling disconnected from your body?

These experiences aren't signs of weakness.

Sometimes they're signs that your nervous system has been working very hard to keep you safe.

Somatic Experiencing® helps individuals gradually reconnect with their body's natural ability to regulate and recover.

Healing often begins with learning to notice what your body has been communicating all along, with compassion and curiosity.

You don't have to stay in survival mode forever.

❤️ Healing Doesn't Only Happen Through Talking

Sometimes people say,
"I know what happened… so why does my body still react like I'm still there?"

Stress and trauma aren't only held in our memories. They can also affect the nervous system, influencing how we respond long after a difficult experience has passed.

You may notice this as:
• constantly feeling on edge
• difficulty relaxing
• emotional numbness
• panic that seems to come out of nowhere
• chronic tension or fatigue

Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) is a body-oriented approach that helps restore regulation by gently supporting the nervous system's natural capacity for healing.

Rather than forcing painful memories or pushing through discomfort, therapy emphasizes safety, awareness, and moving at a pace that feels manageable.

Healing isn't about forgetting what happened.

It's about helping your body recognize that the danger has passed.

At Northshore Family Counseling, we believe healing happens through compassionate relationships, clinical excellence, and honoring each person's unique journey.
