Through our partnership with Ochsner Health, we provide innovative, compassionate care close to home through two hospital campuses and a dedicated team committed to our community. If you wish to discuss personal health information or file a complaint, please contact the Patient Advocate at (985) 280-1630. As a 331-bed acute care community hospital with two campuses located in the heart of Slidell,

La., we provide access to the latest treatments and technology and expert physicians. SMH brought one-stop, world-class cancer treatment close to home to Slidell and Gulf South residents. SMH began construction in August 2009 of its Regional Cancer Center that centralizes all cancer treatment and support services in a new state-of-the-art facility. The new center is located next to Founders Medical Building on Robert Blvd. from the hospital. Its location within close proximity to the hospital gives patients convenient access to both inpatient and outpatient services. History:
SMH opened its doors on Nov. 15, 1959, one day earlier than expected due to an accident that required the services of the brand new Emergency Department. The next day, the official opening of the hospital, SMH had its first official patient, a pregnant woman who gave birth to a baby boy. Today, the hospital delivers between 800 and 1,000 babies per year. Since those first days SMH has consistently been the first hospital on the Northshore to offer key services and technological advancements to patients. From the first open heart surgery, the first cardiac stents, the first brain surgery, and one of the first Image Guided Radiation Therapy units in the world, SMH has provided cutting-edge technology, making it a gem among all health care institutions in South Louisiana. The team at Slidell Regional Cancer Center recently celebrated National Cancer Survivors Day with a "Sock-It to Cancer" 50s-themed party.

National Cancer Survivors Day is especially meaningful to our cancer team as we come together to honor the strength, courage and resilience of those who have faced cancer. We also take time to remember and recognize the loved ones whose journeys continue to inspire us and the families who carry their memories forward.

This year's patient speaker, Wanda V., shared her story and encouraged everyone touched by cancer to "Stay positive, stay strong and pray."

Moments like these remind us how far cancer care has come and the difference that access to advanced treatments, innovative therapies and expert cancer specialists can make for patients and families close to home. Through our partnership with Ochsner Health and MD Anderson Cancer Center, more people in our community can receive leading-edge cancer care while staying connected to the support systems they need most.

Thank you to all who joined us in celebrating, remembering and supporting one another. Together, we continue to honor every cancer journey.
