Emergency case yesterday.
Yesterday I got a call from a client that we just did earlier this week. She said that she found her horse Thursday night around 6pm with its right front leg stuck in the hay feeder & didn’t know how long the horse was like that.
Got the horse free from the hay feeder, horse got up & took care of its wounds on head, hips & hocks ( scraped the top layer of skin off).
Vet was there at 1am Friday to give it Banamine for pain, checked to make sure its insides were not twisted & made sure it wasn’t impacted.
Couldn’t find anything out of the ordinary wrong.
Gave it fluids & whatever else they did.
Horse seemed ok but the horse was stressed out & didn’t eat or drink & not moving to much besides laying down & getting up frequently.
So a few hours went by & horse was still the same after the vet left but not laying down ( a better sign), but the vet did suggest to have the chiropractor ( us ) out cause something was off & not allowing horse to release gas & p**p ( hadn’t gone p*e or p**p for 24 hours).
So the owner called & asked if I was going to be out that way & would do her horse. So I said that we are out that way & not to far from her place & could swing by after the other client to do her horse. She had a friend come around 2pm to do magna-wave on the horse before we came to help relax the muscles on the horse.
We got done with other client’s horse & went over.
Horse was in barn & was just standing relaxing ( didn’t look to good). So we took our time & very slowly worked on the horse. Horse was a bit sore in the Head, neck, shoulders, withers ( BOTH SIDES POPPED BIG TIME, EVERYONE HEARD THEM) horse was starting to look a bit perkier at this point which was a good sign, ribs on Right side were sore ( all of them), left not to bad, THE HIND END is where things got more interesting & better for the horse, sciatica was a bit fiery on the Right side ( not to bad on left), lumbar weren’t to bad, HIPS were both bad. Before we got to the back end the horse was acting like it was going to pass gas but it never did. We adjusted the hind end & the horse was looking very lively ( when we got there it was not lively at all). Walked the horse around for a bit & like 2 minutes or so after we were done adjusting the horse, it passed gas. Did it 3 times ( about a minute apart).
After walking the horse around in the barn we took it halter off & went to the car to put my back brace away & give her more cards & between the time I left the barn to go to the car & back to the barn ( about a minute or two) the horse POOPED a nice size pile & had an appetite for grass.
Will text the owner today & see how the horse is doing but, that was a life & death situation for the horse.
My teacher had a very similar story to this at Saratoga Track. I’ll have to call & tell him about it.
Please take time to read this post, I know it’s long.
