SECU Hospice House A PLACE OF COMPASSION, COMFORT AND DIGNITY

There’s a good chance that someone you know will need end-of-life care.

And if that someone is a loved one such as a parent or spouse, then you know how difficult it can be to make decisions, especially when you’re feeling distressed or overwhelmed. Hospice care focuses on palliative rather than curative treatments. Our goal is to reduce pain and suffering while helping the patient to live as fully as possible. The strain of caring for a loved one can be more than fam

ily caregivers can handle. That’s when a hospice inpatient center like the SECU Hospice House can assist. The SECU Hospice House opened in June of 2010 and is an 18-bed hospice care center for the terminally ill. It is located on Hospital Road a short distance from Johnston Health and is named for the State Employees Credit Union. We strive to make each patient’s stay as comfortable as possible for them and their families.

Backpacks are packed and the school year is starting back up. For kids who have experienced the loss of a loved one, that transition can bring up a lot of feelings, even alongside all the usual first-day excitement.

Camp Courage gives these kids a space built just for them. A day outdoors at Sonlight Farms in Kenly, filled with campfires, games, new friends, and peer support from other kids who understand exactly what they're going through.

Registration closes September 1, and spots are filling up.

Sometimes, the greatest gift you can give a grieving child is a day to simply be a kid.

Camp Courage is looking for a few more helping hands.

On Saturday, Sept. 12, volunteers will spend the day alongside children and teens ages 6 to 17 who have experienced the loss of someone they love. Through art, music, games and outdoor adventures, Camp Courage creates a safe place to heal, connect and make new memories.

You don't need any special experience, just a caring heart and a willingness to show up. One day of your time can make a lasting difference in a child's life.

📅 Saturday, September 12 | 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
📍 Sonlight Farms, Kenly, NC

At the SECU Hospice House, families are focused on one thing: being present with the person they love.

Signing up to provide a meal, whether it's a full lunch, a home-cooked dinner, or even a simple dessert, means one less worry for families and more time spent together. We'd love to fill every remaining spot through the end of the year.

Congratulations to Sherrill Stevens, who received Johnston County's inaugural Cypress Legacy Award this week for his lifetime of service to the county, his country and his faith.

Many of you know Sherrill as one of our dedicated veteran volunteers, helping facilitate ceremonies honoring the veterans we serve at SECU Hospice House. At 99 years old, he continues to give back to his community, just as he has for decades.

Thank you, Sherrill, for your service and for everything you do for our veterans and their families. This honor is well-deserved.

Two hundred fifty years of independence didn't happen without service and sacrifice. This Fourth of July, SECU Hospice House honors the veterans who have been part of our patient family, past and present, and the loved ones who have walked alongside them. Wishing our community a safe and meaningful 250th Independence Day.

When a family is gathered at the SECU Hospice House, the last thing they should have to think about is what's for dinner. 🍽️

Providing a meal — whether that's a full lunch, a home-cooked dinner, or a simple dessert — gives families one less task to manage and one more hour to simply be present with the person they love. That gift of time matters more than most of us realize.

We're currently seeking meal donations for approximately 30 adults. Sign-ups are easy, and even a single contribution makes a real difference.

August and September are still available in our Adopt the Pantry Program! 📅

We're looking for businesses, churches, community groups, families, and individuals to help stock the SECU Hospice House pantry during these remaining months.

When you adopt a month, you'll provide pantry items each Friday to help ensure patients, families, and visitors have access to snacks, beverages, coffee supplies, and other comfort items while spending time at the Hospice House.

It's a simple commitment that can make a meaningful difference for the families we serve.

To reserve a month or learn more, please contact Lesley Richmond at 919-209-5103 or [email protected].
