Apparently, my first “Meet the Founder” draft didn’t have enough fire. My clinicians read it and essentially said, “Cute. But who is that?” 😂

Fair. Let’s try this again.

I’m Rachel Lessard, LCSW, founder of Pathways Within. My approach is direct, no bu****it, and full of heart. I believe we can sit in the suck, have the uncomfortable conversation, and still find something to laugh about along the way.

I built Pathways because I know what it feels like to leave a healthcare appointment wondering why you had to do so much of the work to be heard. Your wants, needs, and experiences should be part of your care from the beginning.

And the people providing that care? They matter to me. This started with friends and coworkers I respected. As we’ve grown, my belief has stayed the same: caring for my team is part of caring for our clients. I want people to love working here—and I take my responsibility in that seriously.

Outside of that, it’s four businesses, four small children, four dogs, and a coffee order that probably needs an onboarding video. Possibly a horse someday. Please respect my commitment to having absolutely no chill.

Swipe for the heart behind the no bu****it. 💙

You don’t have to clean up your story before you walk into my office. Bring the mess. There’s room for all of you here.

Adding a little bit of love from Ireland to our Rockville Centre Office waiting room. Thank you Reithine for this beautiful gift! 🎁 It smells like calm.

Your mouth says, “It’s fine.”
Your jaw would like a word. 🙃

Sometimes it’s easier to notice a tight shoulder than admit, “I’m overwhelmed.”
Easier to describe a heavy chest than say, “I’m still grieving.”
Easier to keep carrying everything than ask, “Who’s going to show up for me?”

At Pathways Within, we get curious about those connections.

When you notice yourself clenching, bracing, or holding tension, what else is happening? Are you angry? Scared? Carrying a responsibility you never actually agreed to? Preparing for a difficult conversation you’ve rehearsed approximately 437 times?

This graphic offers metaphors and questions to explore. There’s no universal emotional filing system where grief goes in the hips and anger gets assigned to the jaw. Your experience gets to be yours.

But sometimes a question like “What am I biting back?” helps you find words for something you haven’t known how to say.

You don’t have to force an answer—or a release. Notice what resonates. Leave what doesn’t. Bring your curiosity into therapy.

And remember: physical symptoms can have many causes. Making space for emotional meaning can happen alongside getting medical care.

💚 Which question on this graphic feels most relevant to you right now? You can keep that answer for yourself, too.

Your mouth: “I’m fine.”
Your jaw: “We’d like to dispute that.” 🙃

Sometimes you notice the tension before you realize how much you’ve been carrying. Your shoulders are practically earrings. Your stomach has opinions. You’re exhausted, but settling down feels like another thing you’re somehow bad at.

Stress and trauma can show up physically—even when you understand what happened, have talked about it, and really wish your body would catch up.

One clarification, because we love a relatable graphic AND accurate information: your hips aren’t a filing cabinet for grief. Specific body parts don’t hold specific emotions. “Stored trauma” is shorthand for how the effects of overwhelming experiences can linger in our stress responses.

At Pathways Within, we make room for the whole picture: your thoughts, emotions, physical experiences, and the ways you learned to get through hard things.

You don’t have to shame yourself into relaxing. You can start with curiosity:
🌿 What am I noticing?
🌿 When does it show up?
🌿 What support might help?

And please don’t write every physical symptom off as trauma. New or persistent symptoms deserve medical attention, too.

Your body deserves care—even when you’re still figuring out what it’s trying to tell you. 💚

Save this for your next “wait, I’ve been clenching this entire time” moment.

We spend our days telling people to ask for what they need.

Annoyingly, that advice applies to us too and here, we practice what we preach!

Pathways Within – Wisdom and Wellness Collaborative has been nominated for Best Psychotherapist in FourLeaf Best of Long Island 2027. So here we are, asking for your vote while dressed like a very emotionally available girl (and Lee) band.

We don’t expect to win. But I’ve spent enough time in therapy to know that deciding you’ve lost before you’ve started is something we should probably unpack.

This team means the world to me. They bring heart, humor, and real care to the work—and apparently let me talk them into matching outfits. Their judgment is usually better than this.

🗳️ Vote October 1–December 15
Health, Wellness & Beauty → Best Psychotherapist

We’re asking for votes. Please don’t make us process our feelings about it.

360° care sounds very official. In real life, it can be much simpler.

💙 Maybe therapy or coaching helps you sort through what's happening mentally.
💚 Maybe massage or acupuncture helps with how stress is showing up physically.
💙 Maybe what you need this week is an hour where nobody asks you for anything.

There isn't one formula. We're building more options because people are layered.

Not sure where to begin? Contact our Welcome Team at 631-371-3825.

We joined the ChatGPT Mascot trend!

Meet the mascots of Pathways Within. 🐾✨

They’ve got big feelings, bigger personalities, and, apparently, better accessories than the rest of us.

Some bring the wisdom. Some bring the chaos. Some bring iced coffee (even to the interview) and a calendar full of good intentions. Honestly? That sounds about right for us.

At Pathways, we believe people can be a little messy, a lot capable, and worthy of care exactly as they are. Our mascot crew understood the assignment. Mostly.

Watch to meet them all, then tell us: which one is your favorite? 👇

Different goals call for different kinds of support.

Coaching can offer a collaborative, forward-focused space for navigating transitions, relationships, communication, and personal growth.

It's another example of why we're continuing to expand what care can look like at Pathways Within.

The right support depends on what you need right now.

To explore whether coaching is right for you, contact our Welcome Team at 631-371-3825.

A new school year can be exciting, but it can also bring new routines, academic pressure, social changes, and a lot of big feelings.

If your child is experiencing anxiety, overwhelm, trouble adjusting or simply doesn't seem like themselves, support is available.

Our clinicians can help children and families navigate the transition, build practical coping skills, and create space for the conversations that may be difficult to have at home.

You don't have to wait for a crisis to ask for help.

Contact our Welcome Team at 631-371-3825 to explore the support available for your child.
