You don’t have to ask them to repeat you—just model, expand, and keep the conversation going! 🗣️✨

What’s the BEST way to encourage language during play?

Hint: You don’t need to turn playtime into a therapy session! The answer is to follow your child’s interests and model language along the way. ✨

Join in on what they’re already interested in, describe what you’re doing, and give them opportunities to communicate.
Follow their lead → Model language → Have fun!

Instead of asking your child to repeat a word after you, try modeling the word naturally during every day conversations!

For example
👧🏽 “Wabbit!”
👨🏽‍🦱 “Yes a rabbit! Look at the rabbit.”

By doing this, you’re giving your child a correct speech model without putting pressure on them to repeat it. 🗣️💙

Remember: Model it. Repeat it. Keep it natural.

AAC is not simply a “tool.” It can be a bridge to communication and connection! AAC can support individuals in participating in conversations, making choices, expressing emotions, advocating for themselves, and engaging more independently in everyday activities.
