Most people are not struggling to change because they’re lazy or “don’t want better.”

They’re struggling because the brain is wired to choose what brings immediate emotional relief — even when it creates long-term problems.

Avoidance can reduce anxiety temporarily.
Unhealthy relationships can reduce loneliness in the moment.
Emotional eating can soothe distress briefly.

The problem is that short-term comfort often keeps people stuck in long-term pain.

Healing usually requires tolerating some discomfort long enough for the nervous system to learn that growth is safe too.

Small choices matter more than people realize.
One boundary.
One healthy decision.
One uncomfortable but necessary step at a time.

✨ You do not have to transform overnight.
You just have to keep choosing the version of your life you actually want to build.

Here are 5 techniques to try when exercise doesn’t help you relax 💜

This topic came up in therapy recently, and I realized a lot of people may quietly struggle with this.

Not everyone feels calm after working out. Some people actually feel more overwhelmed, emotionally drained, overstimulated, or anxious afterward — especially when they’ve been under chronic stress for a long time.

If that’s you, try focusing less on “pushing through” and more on helping your body feel safe and settled again.

5 things that may help instead:
• Gentle movement like walking or stretching
• Quiet, low-stimulation environments
• Better sleep and rest routines
• Talking with safe, supportive people
• Slowing down and reducing overload where possible

Your body is not working against you. It may just need a different kind of support.

✨ Meet the Therapist Behind Solace Intervention ✨

Hi, I’m Nicole Tholmer, LPC — therapist, author, and coloring book publisher. 💜

I created Solace Intervention Counseling & Training to help adults who are tired of carrying emotional pain in silence. Many people look “fine” on the outside while quietly struggling with anxiety, trauma, overwhelm, and unhealthy relationship patterns internally.

My passion is helping people move from survival mode to emotional healing, healthier relationships, and a more fulfilling life.

When I’m not providing therapy, I also create coloring books and wellness content centered around self-soothing, creativity, and emotional wellness.

Just because you’re getting things done doesn’t mean you’re okay.
That “still showing up” kind of depression is real—and it’s one reason I wrote Conquering Depression: Maria’s Journey to Understanding and Healing.
You deserve compassion, not shame.

I wrote Conquering Depression: Maria’s Journey to Understanding & Healing after years of seeing how often people suffer silently—feeling like they “should be fine” while battling a heaviness they can’t explain.

Maria’s story is a mirror for so many of us… and each chapter offers understanding + tools + hope—without shame and without fluff.

Inside you’ll find:
✨ 10 chapters guided by Maria’s healing journey
📝 reflection questions to help you connect the dots
📓 journal prompts to process what you’re carrying
🧠 practical coping strategies for the hard days

📌 Comment BOOK and I’ll DM you the link (or check my bio link if it’s there).
