Calming Connections Counseling

Calming Connections Counseling At Calming Connections Counseling we offer individual, couple, and family counseling services. We also offer support groups.

Specializing in perinatal mental health, family transitions and trauma. Calming Connections Counseling is owned and run by Darla Grieco. My career path began very differently from where I am now. I initially set off into adulthood on my way to becoming a veterinarian. It was not until I gave birth to my daughter that I discovered my true drive and passion to empower individuals as they work toward

s a place of healing. I received my masters of arts in counseling psychology from Northwest University in 2014. In 2004, I received my bachelors of science in Neuroscience from Washington State University. I hold certifications as a lactation educator and postpartum doula. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, families, adolescents and children. I have experience working with individuals, couples, and families dealing with:

anxiety
depression
interpersonal relationship issues
life transitions
grief and loss
trauma history (childhood traumas, sexual abuse, sexual assault, traumatic grief, domestic violence history)
pregnancy issues (conception struggles, pregnancy loss, pregnancy termination)
postpartum issues (birth trauma, postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, breastfeeding support)

I use a counseling approach that is integrative and client-centered, meaning I pull from different theoretical styles in order to best serve the client and suit their needs and goals. I view the counseling relationship as a collaborative partnership, based on honesty and trust, in which we jointly bring about resolution and healing. I am influenced by Integral Psychology. Therefore, I will address the client as a whole person, taking into consideration the many interrelated parts of the human being (biological, emotional, cognitive, relational, cultural, and spiritual) allowing for a more complete understanding of the individual and his or her unique life circumstances. As your counselor, I aim to provide a safe and empathetic environment to explore thoughts, feelings, and goals. I will help you to identify strengths and areas of growth and change, while working towards self-acceptance and satisfaction in your relationships. While therapy can help to bring about welcome change, the process may at times give rise to uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, or memories. The way to a life of peace may not be without effort, but the freedom that results is a treasure that no one can take away from you.

There's a particular kind of exhaustion that comes when you're holding too much - a new baby, an unraveling relationship, a grief that won't sit still, or a rage you didn't know lived in your bones. Your body knows what your mind is still catching up to.

I work with women who are willing to feel their way through these ruptures, who understand that finding your way back to yourself requires getting curious about what's happening beneath the surface. That's the work - slowing down enough to listen to what your body has been trying to tell you all along.

If you're looking for someone to sit with you in this, I'm accepting new clients. Visit www.calmingconnectionscounseling.com to learn more.

We weren’t meant to parent alone as a couple, or alone as a single parent. You’re doing a great job. It’s hard because it’s not meant to be this lonely.

Do you feel it?
That quiet stirring
It's subtle at first
But it's starting to grow
Like bees buzzing in a hive
Deep in the pits of your womb

Something is ready to be birthed
Bracing itself to push forth
From the depths of your being
The wisdom is calling

Are you ready to be the doula?
Are you ready to ride the stang?
And be the portal holder?

The Old ones are calling
They are not asking anymore
The time is now
Here, ever present
Waiting for you to say 'yes'
Use me

It doesn't have to be perfect
In fact it will probably be messy
But They are there to guide you
And They will not leave you

Their wisdom is found in your marrow
With every inhale, hear
Them speak
With every exhale, release
Their words

This year They helped you release
They held you deep within their roots
They nourished you from the Great Mother
They held you close as an infant

Now they're guiding you out
Step out of yourself
Begin to crawl up the ladder of the roots
Take one final inhale at the Mother's chest
Knowing you can always return
That place will always be there for you to descend down to To be held
But have courage now
Their strength is guiding you
Will you step out?
And speak the ancient wisdom?

Imagine a woman who believes it is right and good she is a woman.
A woman who honors her experience and tells her stories.
Who refuses to carry the sins of others within her body and life.

Imagine a woman who trusts and respects herself.
A woman who listens to her needs and desires.
Who meets them with tenderness and grace.

Imagine a woman who acknowledges the past’s influence on the present.
A woman who has walked through her past.
Who has healed into the present.

Imagine a woman who authors her own life.
A woman who exerts, initiates, and moves on her own behalf.
Who refuses to surrender except to her truest self and wisest voice.

Imagine a woman who names her own gods.
A woman who imagines the divine in her image and likeness.
Who designs a personal spirituality to inform her daily life.

Imagine a woman in love with her own body.
A woman who believes her body is enough, just as it is.
Who celebrates its rhythms and cycles as an exquisite resource.

Imagine a woman who honors the body of the Goddess in her changing body.
A woman who celebrates the accumulation of her years and her wisdom.
Who refuses to use her life-energy disguising the changes in her body and life.

Imagine a woman who values the women in her life.
A woman who sits in circles of women.
Who is reminded of the truth about herself when she forgets.

Imagine yourself as this woman.

II

Imagine a woman who is interested in her own life.
A woman who embraces her life as teacher, healer, and challenge.
Who is grateful for the ordinary moments of beauty and grace.

Imagine a woman who participates in her own life.
A woman who meets each challenge with creativity.
Who takes action on her own behalf with clarity and strength.

Imagine a woman who has crafted a fully-formed solitude.
A woman who is available to herself.
Who chooses friends and lovers with the capacity to respect her solitude.

Imagine a woman who acknowledges the full range of human emotion.
A woman who expresses her feelings clearly and directly.
Who allows them to pass through her as naturally as the breath.

Imagine a woman who tells the truth.
A woman who trusts her experience of the world and expresses it.
Who refuses to defer to the perceptions, thoughts, and responses of others.

Imagine a woman who follows her creative impulses.
A woman who produces original creations.
Who refuses to color inside someone else's lines.

Imagine a woman who has relinquished the desire for intellectual approval.
A woman who makes a powerful statement with every action she takes.
Who asserts to herself the right to reorder the world.

Imagine a woman who has grown in knowledge and love of herself.
A woman who has vowed faithfulness to her own life.
Who remains loyal to herself. Regardless.

Imagine yourself as this woman.
