The crib-to-bed transition is one milestone I wouldn’t rush.

Parents often assume their toddler needs a bed simply because they’re getting older, but age alone isn’t a reason to make the switch.

If your child is sleeping well, isn’t climbing out, and still fits safely in the crib, it’s usually best to wait until closer to age 3. Younger toddlers often don’t have the impulse control to understand, “I need to stay in my bed,” which can quickly turn bedtime into a game of repeatedly leaving the room.

Once you remove the crib rails, you’re not just changing where your child sleeps. You’re giving them access to the entire room. 😱

Keep the crib as long as it’s safe and working. There’s no prize for transitioning early. 😊

Did you move your toddler into a bed too early, or are you holding onto the crib as long as possible?

A good bedtime routine can make all the difference to help your baby wind down and relax for bedtime. These are also strong cues to your baby (since they can't tell time) that it's time for rest.

Have questions about this routine or yours? Drop those below and I'll pop in later.

As a twin mom, crying was honestly unavoidable at times. I was one mom with two babies. There were moments when they both needed me at the exact same time, and I physically couldn’t respond to both of them at once.

One of the biggest fears I hear from parents now is that if their baby cries, especially during sleep training, will it cause harm to them. The answer is no, crying doesn’t automatically mean harm.

Babies cry when they’re tired, frustrated, overwhelmed, adjusting to change or simply don’t like what’s happening. They can cry while you’re holding them and actively comforting them.

And when we look at research on behavioral sleep interventions, studies have not found evidence of long-term negative effects on attachment, emotional or behavioral outcomes, or the parent-child relationship.

Attachment is built through the relationship you have with your child over time. It's not determined by whether your baby ever cries or if you sleep training them.

You don’t have to sleep train. That’s a personal parenting decision. But you also don’t need to be afraid that helping your baby learn to sleep means you’re choosing sleep over attachment.

You can have both. If you are ready to make the next step then let me know. I'm here to support you along the way.

I'm really struggling with the topic of melatonin and children and how it has increasingly become a bandaid for children who struggle to fall asleep or staying asleep. Yes, in some rare cases it may be needed, but lately I’ve been surprised by how normalized it has become.

Our bodies naturally produce melatonin, and in my opinion, children should not be taking melatonin supplements unless they are absolutely necessary.

That’s what inspired me to write this blog post this morning. Take a moment to learn the factors that I look into and adjust to help parents get their little one off of melatonin and falling asleep / staying asleep naturally.

I know I previously said I was taking a little break, but I couldn’t help myself and put together this little infographic this morning.

I find myself reminding families often: some parts of sleep are in our control, and some parts simply are not. So I thought I would put this information out into the universe in hopes that other parents can benefit from the reminder too.

The goal is not perfection. The goal is to create the best conditions for sleep, stay consistent, and give your baby time to adjust.

Sleep progress often comes from focusing on what you can control, while giving yourself grace around what you can’t. ♥️

Sleep at 3 months can be tricky. Most 3 month olds are not on a strict by the clock schedule yet, so I usually focus more on wake windows, waking baby at the same time each day, full feeds, and making sure baby is getting enough daytime sleep.

A sample day might look something like this:

7:00 am wake
8:15–9:30 am nap
10:45–12:00 pm nap
1:30–2:30 pm nap
4:00–4:45 pm nap
6:15–6:45 pm cat nap if needed
7:45/8:00 pm bedtime

Some babies will take 4 naps, some will take 5, and bedtime may shift depending on how naps went that day. That is very normal at this age.

The goal is not perfection. The goal is to start building a rhythm to the day. A simple way to start is to wake your baby up at the same time each morning (super important).

Save this for later if you have a 3 month old at home.
