Our squad frequently holds community CPR classes as a way to teach lifesaving skills to those around us. Last night, we held a class for members of Canal Walk, teaching them basic CPR and steps to take if someone is found unresponsive. The crowd was very attentive and it is always a good day when we can teach others how to save a life đźš‘

This past weekend we had our installation brunch! We celebrated all the hard work our members dedicate to our squad and community with our families and friends. We also recognize the top 10 responders of 2025, our line officers, and celebrate milestone service anniversaries. Thank you to every single one of our members—and their families—for making EMFAS as successful as it is!

At last nights monthly meeting we had a surprise birthday celebration for our Captain Larry! As the Thursday night Crew Chief, he is known to spend time educating new members and tends to finish off the shift with a few card games. He’s always quick to crack a joke or plan another squad sports outting. Thank you for all you do for our squad and the community Larry 🎂

Summer is trauma season which makes it a perfect time to practice our trauma skills! July’s drill night consisted of a mock motor vehicle collision. Crews responded to the “scene” and subsequently triaged, assessed, and treated a total of 4 patients. This allows all members, old and new, an opportunity to hone their skills and collaborate with members that typically aren’t on their weekly crew. Afterwards, we debriefed the call and discussed ways in which we succeeded and ways to improve. It was a fun and educational night! Special thanks to our chief Christine for her excellent makeup skills, creating highly realistic injuries. And of course thank you to all of our actors who played their role perfectly!

Today we laid to rest our former Captain Butch VanDeursen. Butch dedicated 20 years of service to our community as an EMT and led our squad as Captain. As if that weren’t enough, he also dedicated over 60 years of service as a member of East Franklin and Middlebush Fire departments. Butch exemplified what is meant to support, serve, and care for his community in more ways than one and we are so thankful for his meaningful contributions over his lifetime.

Yesterday was a jam packed equipment review night! Our ambulances carry a wide variety of equipment, each of which are very helpful in specific situations. It’s helpful to review all the tools we carry so we know which resources we have and how to use them properly. Yesterday we reviewed c-collars, back boards, the Reeves sleeve, scoop stretcher, binder lift, stair chair, Ked and more! Interested in learning what these tools are and how we use them? Visit our website at www.emfas52.org to learn about how to become a member, or catch us at one of the many community events we will be standing by at this summer and ask away!
