Well, here we are… August.
I’m not sure how we got here already, but honestly, I’m just impressed I’ve remembered to do my first-of-the-month reflections.
What I originally began to write was a very reactive reflection. After rereading it and sitting with my thoughts, I realized that’s not how I want to represent myself—or my business. So, I’m giving this a second go.
This summer has mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually exhausted every ounce of my being. Maybe it’s the change in routine during summer break. Maybe I’m learning some of life’s harder lessons. Or maybe it’s simply the reality of being a middle-aged woman navigating a body, mind, and season of life that are constantly changing.
The Melissa I used to know was always lighthearted and quick to laugh. Lately, everything has felt heavier. My candle seems to be burning a little dimmer than usual.
These past few months have challenged my confidence, my trust, my patience, and even my faith in the people around me. As my circle becomes smaller with each passing year, I’m reminded that true friendship isn’t measured by the number of people in your life—it’s measured by who still stands beside you when life gets hard.
As people continue to fall away, I’m choosing to believe that God’s rejection is often His protection. I’m also learning that protecting my peace isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. My energy is too valuable to spend trying to pour into people who only show up when there’s something to gain.
As summer begins to wind down and routines slowly return, I’m making a promise to myself to intentionally refocus on my own mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. I can’t pour from an empty cup, and if I’m going to continue showing up for my family, my clients, my friends, and this little business I’ve poured my heart into, I have to start by showing up for myself.
Here’s to slower mornings, stronger boundaries, renewed faith, and hoping that August brings a little more light than the months before it.
If this season has felt heavy for you too, know you’re not walking through it alone. 🤍
