For a homebound older adult, grocery shopping can become a serious challenge because of limited transportation, mobility issues, or difficulty carrying bags.

JFS’s Senior Shopper Program matches trained volunteers with older adults in Somerset County, helping them access groceries and remain safely and independently in their homes.

The program is designed around each senior’s individual needs. Volunteers can shop for foods that meet cultural, religious, and medical dietary preferences. JFS can also help connect eligible seniors with SNAP benefits, food pantries, and other community resources when additional support is needed.

Matches are made based on geography, availability, and language, with more than 10 languages represented within the program during the past year.

For eligibility information, call the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services at 908-704-6346. To volunteer, email [email protected].

🚗 Something exciting is rolling into this fall... Cartober is almost here!

Every year, Cartober gives community members a simple way to make a lasting impact by donating an unwanted vehicle to support the causes they care about.

Whether it's a car, truck, motorcycle, boat, or RV, your donation can help fuel life-changing programs and services for individuals and families in our community.

We'll be sharing more in the coming weeks about how easy it is to participate and how your donation can make a difference.

🚙 If you can't wait until October to donate your car and have questions about donating your vehicle, we’re happy to help!

You can learn more on our website: https://jewishfamilysvc.org/donate--vehicle-donation.php

Returning to school involves more than buying supplies and checking schedules. It can also bring changes in sleep, routines, friendships, expectations, and anxiety.

A few ways caregivers can help make the transition easier:

1 - Begin adjusting routines before the first day
2 - Create space for children to share their concerns
3 - Focus on what they can control
4 - Validate mixed feelings about returning
5 - Reach out for support when stress begins affecting daily life

JFS offers counseling and family support for children, teens, and caregivers navigating school transitions and other challenges.

The need for mental health support continues to grow, but cost, insurance, and uncertainty about where to begin can make reaching out feel difficult.

At JFS, we work to make counseling welcoming and accessible from the first phone call. Our licensed clinicians serve children, young adults, adults, couples, and families, with support available for a wide range of needs and life circumstances.

JFS accepts many insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, and payment assistance may be available for those experiencing financial hardship. We also understand that every situation is different and work with clients to provide care that is private, respectful, and responsive to their needs.
