In recognition of World Breastfeeding Week, we’re proud to spotlight the dedicated lactation consultants who support families every step of the way.

💙 Meet Jennifer G., RN, IBCLC

About Me:
"I’m a mother of two with 10 years of experience as a Labor & Delivery nurse. I’ve served as a lactation consultant at RWJUH Somerset since 2023 and also teach prenatal classes for expectant parents."

My Role:
"I support and guide new mothers on their breastfeeding journey, beginning during pregnancy and continuing after delivery. Throughout the Maternity unit, I help families with proper latching and positioning, answer questions, troubleshoot challenges, and provide the encouragement they need to feel confident feeding their babies."

Why I Love What I Do:
“Breastfeeding is the best nutrition for a baby and a wonderful way to bond with your newborn. I had such a meaningful breastfeeding experience with both of my children that I wanted to help other families experience that same connection. I love empowering women to do something they may not have thought they could. It’s truly amazing how a mother’s body continually changes to meet her baby’s needs.”

Jennifer’s next prenatal breastfeeding class is Tuesday, September 24, from 6–9 p.m. To register, call 908-704-3744.

Yesterday, RWJUH Somerset was proud to celebrate National Night Out by connecting with our neighbors in five Somerset County communities: South Bound Brook, Bound Brook, North Plainfield, Hillsborough, and Franklin.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our tables to say hello, learn about our services, and spend the evening with us. We love being part of these events that strengthen the relationships between our hospital and the communities we serve. 💙

Missed us last night? You can still visit us at the Somerset County 4-H Fair, happening today through Friday (August 5–7) at North Branch Park from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Stop by our booth to receive valuable health information, take advantage of free blood pressure screenings, play games, and win fun prizes. We hope to see you there!

🌱 Fresh food, healthy habits, and community came together this weekend for another inspiring My Healthy Vegetable Patch program event!

Participants learned practical nutrition tips from registered dietitian and Rutgers Cooperative Extension Family & Community Health Services educator Shailja Mathur, including the nutritional benefits of fresh produce, recommended daily servings, healthy seasonings, how to read food labels, and the benefits of pickling vegetables. She also demonstrated how to prepare a delicious spinach and corn salad, which everyone had the opportunity to sample.

To top it off, participants took home a bag of fresh produce generously provided by Szymanski Farms in Bridgewater.

A special thank you to our community partners:
🌿 Kristi Colbert – Bound Brook Garden Committee
🌿 Lorraine Hubbard – Norwescap
🌿 Shailja Mathur – Rutgers Cooperative Extension Family & Community Health Services

My Healthy Vegetable Patch is a community-driven initiative supported by Healthier Somerset that helps combat food insecurity by empowering at-risk residents to grow their own fresh produce. Through gardening supplies, indoor grow kits, nutrition education, and culturally relevant recipes, the program is helping individuals and families build healthy habits while increasing access to nutritious foods.
