Patsy Lorene Pennington, age 83, resident of Oakland, Tennessee, passed away Friday, October 16, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Patsy was born on April 29, 1943, in Trenton, Tennessee, to Oren Kernodle and Jessie Lorene Ward Kernodle. She was a graduate of Bradford High School, Class of 1961, and dedicated her life to being a loving homemaker and caring for her family. On December 29, 1962, she married the love of her life, Billy Gene Pennington. As a devoted Navy wife, Patsy embraced the opportunity to travel and make memories with her family throughout the years.

Patsy found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She loved flowers and gardening, cross-stitching, and getting lost in a good book. Family beach trips were among her favorite traditions, though fall was her favorite season of all. She enjoyed peaceful naps with her beloved Shih Tzu, Posie, and remained a lifelong fan of the University of Memphis Tigers. Above all, Patsy treasured her family, and her grandchildren were truly the greatest joy of her life. The love she shared with them will remain a cherished part of their memories for years to come.

Patsy is survived by her two daughters, Angela Capshaw (Lee Rendall) of Arlington, Tennessee, and Melissa Pennington of Oakland, Tennessee; one sister, Betty Lester of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren, Cassidy Erin Owens (Jeff) of Kenhorst, Pennsylvania, Savannah Rae Capshaw of Memphis, Tennessee, and Jacob Carter Capshaw (Sofia) of Arlington, Tennessee; and two great-grandchildren, River and Kenna.

Graveside services for Ms. Pennington will be held Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Fayette County Memorial Park on Highway 64.

The family requests that memorials be made to the ASPCA in Patsy’s memory.

Patsy will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her love of life’s simple joys, and the special place she held in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her memory will forever bloom in the hearts of her family, just like the flowers she so dearly loved.

Larry Gene Hoskins

Larry Jean Hoskins, age 77, a lifelong resident of Somerville, passed away on October 14, 2026 at his residence.

Larry was born on February 1, 1949, to the late Cecil Hoskins, Sr. and Sarah Bell Kee Hoskins, and lived a life shaped by work, music, conversation, and the simple life that made him unmistakably himself. A graduate of the Fayette County School System, he went on to serve his community in several roles over the years, working for the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, the Fayette County Ambulance Service, and Roger Henson Trucking of Bolivar, Tennessee. He found joy in staying busy and doing the things he loved with his own hands.

Larry enjoyed cutting grass and working on lawnmowers. He had a love for music and played both the piano and the guitar. At one point in his life, playing music even took him traveling as he shared his love for music with others. He was also a devoted fan of Gunsmoke, the kind of viewer who knew every turn so well he could tell you what was about to happen before it did.

Those who knew Larry will remember another defining part of him just as clearly: he loved to talk. Conversation came naturally to him, and that gift for talking was part of the fun he brought into the lives of others. Whether speaking about music, work, lawnmowers, television, gossip, or the ordinary moments of the day, he made his presence known in a way that was memorable and distinctly his own.

Larry is survived by his children, Larry Wayne Hoskins (Beth), Angie Sanders (Junior) and Lauren Hoskins; eight grandchildren, Amber Vargo (Brian), Ashley Busby (Barry), Abbigail Howell (Micheal), Jacob Sanders, Neilly Sanders, DJ Lewis, Kyrie Hoskins and Khloe Frankin; eleven great-grandchildren, Lane Hilliard, Skylar Hilliard, Hagen Hilliard, Re*****on Vargo, Summer McQueen, Emily McQueen, Jaden McQueen, Levi Busby, Novaley Busby, Bailie Odom and Dexter Howell. Larry is also survived by two brothers, Jimmy Hoskins and Ricky Hoskins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Parker, Linda Young and Brenda Kirk, as well as one brother, Cecil Hoskins, Jr.

Larry Jean Hoskins leaves behind the memory of a man who worked hard, loved music, enjoyed the simple rhythms of life, and brought his own voice and personality wherever he went. He will be remembered with affection by all who knew him. The family invites you to come on Monday, October 19, 2026, between 6pm and 8pm, at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville for a time of visitation.

Chester J. Lee

Chester J. Lee, nearly 97 years old, and formerly of Lexington, Ridgely, Alamo, Memphis, and Milan, TN, passed away in his home in Somerville, TN, on the morning of Thursday, October 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Chester grew up with his mother and 5 siblings on a farm, born just 5 days after the stock market crash of 1929. His mother was the best cook ever, and kept his family well fed and happy despite the Great Depression. He grew up knowing how to fix or repair just about anything and that served him well in his military service.

Chester was in the National Guard in high school and joined the Navy upon graduating in 1949, where he was a private first class on the USS Hector AR7, a destroyer tender posted out of Long Beach, California. He met the love of his life December 2, 1951, when home on leave, when he and Pat were set up on a blind day by their friends Clovis Carter and Don Sanderson, a fellow Navy man from Alamo. Chester and Pat wrote letters back and forth while he was deployed, and married December 21, 1952, when he returned home on leave.

After his 4 years of service, they moved to Memphis, where he worked for Hunter Fan and then South Central Bell Telephone company. Working in installation at first, he installed many telephones, including a phone for Elvis’ mother. Chester later moved up to switchman and spent 36 years with Bell telephone companies in Memphis and Milan, TN. Chester and Pat loved to go fishing for crappie and catfish on the weekends, and they later rode a motorcycle together to all but 4 of these United States. Another hobby was flying remote control airplanes and playing music with friends at Eliot’s Music Store in Milan, TN. There wasn’t a chord on the guitar that he didn’t know and play on his Taylor guitar. He enjoyed playing gospel, country, and bluegrass with friends and family at jam sessions and festivals around west Tennessee.

From his 30’s on, Chester was a master mason of the White Station Mason Lodge, later merged into Unity Lodge #95, and he has 62 years of membership in the lodge, including Master of the Lodge in 1972. Chester could fix anything broken, and he invented and built numerous devices to solve problems, including a rolling stand for an upright bass and a plexiglass extension table for a sewing machine, so Pat could sew together quilt tops.

Chester is preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Mohler and siblings, Elmer (Eubie) Wood, Delmer (Dewey) Dunavant, Mae (Howard) Castell, Louise (Nick) Tinta, and Marie (Dave) Rabe, as well as his father Chester P. Wheeler of St. Louis, MO, and his brothers Jerry (Barbara) Wheeler, and Neil Wheeler of Missouri.

Chester leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly 74 years, Patsye R. Lee, and his daughters, Sylvia (Martin) Edwards of Somerville, Michelle (Chester) Echlin, and Melissa (Ralph) Norwood of Oakland, TN, along with grandchildren Ronnie Thomas, Jr., of Oakland, Toni Burns (Tim) O’Kane of Cordova, and Trish Carver of Arlington, TN, and great grandchildren including Jacob Burns, Dain Carver, Joshua Burns, Aubrey Carver, and Emilee Carver, step grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and a step-great-great-grandson.

Funeral Services for Mr. Lee will be at 1:00 Monday afternoon, October 19, 2026, at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with interment following at Fayette County Memorial Park on Highway 64. A visitation for Mr. Lee will be from 12:00 noon until 1:00 Monday afternoon, October 19, 2026, at the chapel.

Ellen Loreda Barnes

Ellen, born in Dyess Arkansas to a father who was a share cropper and a stay at home mom who worked the fields. Ellen worked the cotton fields in the mornings and afternoons between school hours. She fell in love with Will Barnes when she was in the 7th grade and he was a senior in high school. Their love for basketball and God’s will brought them together at the gym at Dyess High School. She knew at that moment she was going to marry him. He enlisted in the Airforce out of High School and when he returned she was waiting for him. They fell in love and married shortly after that and had three children, Teresa, Donna and Billy whom she adored and was a great Mother. She was a devoted wife of 64 years when Will went to be with our Lord and Savior. He was the only man she ever loved and was totally committed to him. Everyone that knew her loved her. She was a saint on earth. Unselfish and giving to everyone. She loved the Lord, walked and prayed with Him daily. Ellen devoted her entire life to Jesus, her husband, children, grand and great children that she loved. She will be in our hearts forever!

She was a preacher’s wife for 45 years. Kept the nursery and taught children’s church. She had such a heart for children.

Ellen left a wonderful legacy of putting the Lord first in her life and then her family.

She had some favorite scriptures:

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Hebrews 9:27

It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgement.

John 13:34 35

Love one another as I have loved you, so you must love one another.

Romans 8:28

We know that in all things, God works for those who love Him and have been called according to His purpose.

Matthew 6:33

Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, all these things will be added unto you.

Ellen’s one liners she always stated:

If you live long enough, you are going to get old.

It should not hurt to be a child.

Children only know what they are taught.

She will be in our hearts until we go home in eternity and will see her again. No more pain and sorrow. Rejoicing and praising our Lord and Savior.
