What Can Esophageal Manometry Evaluate?

✔ Difficulty swallowing
✔ Chest or esophageal discomfort
✔ Abnormal esophageal muscle function
✔ Lower esophageal sphincter function
✔ Certain swallowing and motility disorders

About the Procedure:
A thin, flexible tube is gently passed through the nose to measure pressure and muscle contractions in the esophagus.
Difficulty swallowing, chest discomfort, or persistent symptoms can sometimes be related to how the muscles of your esophagus are working.

Esophageal manometry is a specialized diagnostic procedure that measures the pressure and pattern of muscle contractions in the esophagus, as well as the function of the lower esophageal sphincter.

At Digestive Healthcare Center, this procedure can help your gastroenterologist better understand certain swallowing and esophageal concerns and determine the appropriate next steps for your care.

If you’ve been experiencing ongoing swallowing difficulties or unexplained esophageal symptoms, proper evaluation can help provide answers.

Constipation can happen from time to time, but when it becomes frequent or uncomfortable, it’s important to understand what may be causing it.

According to DHC, common contributors can include diet, inactivity, stress, certain medications, and underlying medical conditions. Simple changes such as staying hydrated, choosing fiber-rich foods, and staying physically active may help support regular bowel movements.

However, persistent constipation should not be ignored. Symptoms such as blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting may require prompt medical evaluation.

If constipation is becoming a regular problem, DHC can help determine the underlying cause and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
