Rita Darlene Beck, 78 of Earlville, Illinois passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. She was born on February 24, 1948 the daughter of John & Adeline (Heiston) Peterson. Rita married Larry Beck on January 30,1969 & spent 57 years loving each other unconditionally.

Survived by her husband, Larry; granddaughter, Ashley (Matt) Walker; great grandchildren, Olivia, Maddox, & Kohen. A brother Norm (Joan) Peterson, sisters-in-law, Shirlee Hansen, Mary Beck & Linda Peterson, many nieces, nephews, cousins & lots of extra grandchildren along the way.

She worked at CTS Knights in Sandwich where she enjoyed her boss role for 30 years. After her boss career came to an end she then went to babysitting to keep her busy. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and long time friend Chris Loy. She loved sitting in her chair watching the all the different types of birds. Always on the look out for what wildlife she could see. She always followed the grandkids with their sporting events near & far. She looked forward to seeing her grandchildren & all of their friends even though she would surely call everyone by the wrong name.

You could always count on Rita to be there with a smile on her face cheering for you. She was a once in a lifetime person who will be truly missed by everyone that knew her.

Preceded in death by her daughter, Gina Beck, son, Jeff Beck , sister, Luann Acuncius, brother, Melvin Peterson, her parents, John & Adeline Peterson, father & mother in law, John & Ruth Beck.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Shabbona County Park: 4165 E 16th Rd. Earlville, IL 60518. William (Bill) Nelson, age 95 of Shabbona formerly Earlville passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026. He was born April 8,1931 in Earlville, the son of Andrew and Bodil (Lundgren) Nelson. Bill and MaryLou Lush married on February 14, 1952 and spent the next 74 years together.

Bill is survived by his wife MaryLou, children Wanda (Butch) Clay and Mike (Janine) Nelson, 4 granddaughters, and 5 great granddaughters, 3 brothers, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Bodil Nelson; son, Bill Jr., and 2 grandchildren as well as 3 siblings.

Bill will be remembered as one of those good guys that would do just about anything for anyone.

Shirley Mae Serby, born on June 29, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois, passed away on August 19, 2026 at The Pavilion on Main in Sandwich, Illinois. Her rich life, lived across nearly a century, was marked by devotion to family, steadfast faith, and a profound generosity that touched everyone around her.

Shirley was the beloved daughter of Edward and Gunvor (Hanson) Anderson. Her journey began amidst the vibrance of Chicago, where she grew up and eventually found her lifelong partner and love, Kenneth Joseph Serby. They married on August 3, 1946, embarking together on a partnership that would span decades and inspire those blessed to witness it. Kenneth preceded her in death, but the bond they shared shaped the foundation of a loving family that thrived with Shirley’s guidance.

Throughout her life, Shirley dedicated herself to her family. She is survived by her children: Kenneth J. Serby Jr, Judith (John) Serby-Emerson, Debra Serby, and Honorary daughter, Jackie. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Sean (Karie) Serby, Amanda (Rick) Adkerson, Daniel Emerson, Patrick Emerson; Honorary granddaughters, Erin, and Amy. The next generation—her great-grandchildren Justin (Kaitlin) Adkerson, Dyllon (Kezia) Adkerson, Sydney (Brandon Todd) Adkerson, Lucas (Cadence) Serby, Curtis Serby, and Gavin Emerson; great great-grandchildren, Alice, Archer, Oaklynn and Orion—carry her spirit, kindness, and joy of life forward. Her very dear care giver, Cheryl will always have a special place in the hearts of the Serby family.

Home was always wherever Shirley happened to be. She was an extraordinary homemaker—her hands skilled in sewing, knitting, and crocheting, crafting clothing and blankets full of warmth and love. She was also renowned for her baking; few could resist her delicious pies, fresh bread, and traditional kumla. Coffee hours shared with girlfriends brought laughter and friendship into the heart of her home, a place forever open not only to her own children but to every child from the family and neighborhood who needed comfort, guidance, or a warm meal.

Shirley was deeply engaged in her community and church life. She was a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion in Leland, Illinois, an achievement that spoke to her passion for service and her loyal, caring nature. She served on many church committees including, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school, sharing her faith and wisdom with grace.

Of all her accomplishments, Shirley’s family was her greatest pride. With her nurturing spirit, Shirley helped forge connections that will endure for generations, teaching by example to love deeply and serve others selflessly.

A graveside service will be held on September 5, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Charter Grove Cemetery, 29373 Moose Range Rd, Genoa, IL 60135, with Pastor Hope officiating. Michael Eugene “Dewey” Soens of Sugar Grove passed away, Sunday, August 16, 2026 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, IL surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 12,1962 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, IL to Eugene “Dewey" and Annabelle Soens. He is survived by his two sister’s, Deborah (Gary) of Sugar Grove, Karen (Israel/Izzy) Mendoza of Plano. Nieces, Danielle Mielke, Lowell, IN, Jacquelyn (Jen) Mielke, Montgomery, Allyson (Brian) Haney, Grovetown, Ga, Joseph (Amanda) Mendoza, Ft. Myer’s FL, Melissa (Adam) Carreno, TX, Kristy (Ruben) Villarreal, Plano, Mark (Holly) Mendoza of Sandwich, numerous great niece's, nephew's and cousin’s. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey in 1979 and Annie in 2003.

Mike lived in Sugar Grove for the last twenty years with his sister and family. He was an integral part of their imprinted apparel business, Sport Kids Couture. He became a self taught, highly skilled, graphic designer and handled every aspect of design and imprinting. He was extremely mechanical and was the “resident” handyman who could fix anything. He was an avid sport’s fan; Indy and Formula One Racing being his favorite. He enjoyed many race trips and loved his Chicago Blackhawk’s, Bear’s, Cub’s and Sox. After his Dad’s passing, he and his sister Karen took over the Mr. and Mrs. Santa business, providing Christmas memories for many families throughout the Fox Valley Area. In previous years, Mike loved riding his Harley, taking numerous trips with his Uncle Jim, and special “brother” cousins, “Hank,” Jimmy, and “Little James,” visiting many states throughout the country he so fondly loved.

Mike was a kind, good, loving human who had a “zest” for life and lived it to the fullest. He was a “straight shooter,” plain and simple. He was always up for a party and loved to drink Busch Lite at the 3rd Ward and other local club’s. He loved his family fiercely. Never having had children of his own, he was the coolest and best “FUN-CKLE” any niece or nephew could ask for.

Honoring Mike’s wishes, cremation will be taking place. Family scattering will be next May at the Indy 500 Race and then on to the Bad Land’s of South Dakota. In true Mike fashion, he requested a “SHINDIG,” which will be announced at a later date.

On behalf of our families we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the ICU Team at Delnor Hospital, for the exceptional care they provided for Mike. We are incredibly thankful for their compassion, dedication and patience throughout this difficult time all while putting up with his quick wit and smart sense of humor. Requiring him to “display” his "butt tattoo’s" during his hospital stay brought much laughter to the doctor’s and staff.

Brother, “May the wind be ever at your back and the Green Flag Always Wave.” And most importantly, "May your final ride be easy down long roads with gentle curves, guiding by the wind and warmed by the sun.” You are so loved and will never be forgotten.
