Penny Cruz

Dear Penny,

You were more than a dog to me—you were a constant presence of love, steadiness, and unspoken understanding. I’m writing this with a heart that still feels your absence, yet cherishes every moment we shared.

You helped me in ways I’m sure I didn’t even fully realize at the time. When my mind felt tangled, you offered a quiet, unwavering companionship that steadied my thoughts and brought a sense of calm I could rely on. Your presence was a form of mental stability I could count on, and your gentle nudges and hopeful eyes reminded me to keep going when things felt heavy.

Emotionally, you were a true anchor. You listened without judgment, offered companionship without conditions, and gave me a sense of being seen and understood. Even on days when words failed me, your companionship spoke volumes, and I found comfort in the rhythm of your breathing, your soft sighs, and your steady heartbeat resting beside mine.

You were more than a helper with everyday tasks; you were my partner in countless projects, both big and small. You stood by my side through vehicle and house endeavors, offering a steady presence that helped me stay focused and persistent. Your encouragement—whether you were simply lying nearby, wagging once for a job well done, or nudging me toward the next step—made all the difference.

Penny, you also helped me get into shape, stretching miles of running into shared adventures. I’ll always remember the miles we logged together, your pace and perseverance matching mine in a way that felt almost magical. Those runs weren’t just workouts; they were time carved out for us to breathe, dream, and push each other toward a healthier life.

I know there were moments when you were a bit of a pain in the ass for my wife—the stubborn moments, the stubborn stretches, the reminders that you were still your own bold, spirited dog. Yet, in those same moments, you protected her and stood by me, showing a fierce loyalty that mirrored the bond we all shared as a family. You may have challenged us at times, but you also kept us safe and reminded us what mattered most.

And now, even though you’re gone, I feel your presence in everything around me. You’re with me in the quiet mornings, in the sunlit afternoons, and in the memory of your lively energy that filled our home. I know you’ll always be with me in spirit—my faithful companion, my confidant, my best friend.

Thank you for the unconditional love, the joy you brought, and the strength you lent me during every step of our journey together. Until we meet again, Penny, I’ll carry you in my heart, and I’ll carry forward the love and lessons you gave me.

With all my love,

Tony
