We opened the first Caring Cottage location on Martin Lane in 2015 with a vision: that we could create a place for elderly people in need of residential care i

n the South Bend area that felt more like a home than an institution—a place where people would feel comfortable and cared for, as if they were with their own family. We created The Caring Cottage with this vision in mind and paid attention to every detail, from the cozy Adirondack chairs on our beautifully manicured front lawn, to the open layout that’s naturally wheelchair accessible—including all 5 bedrooms and the 1.5 bathrooms. In 2020, we opened our second location on Brandel Avenue. This home has a modern French Country feel, and an open kitchen that’s perfect for when we all make cookies together in the afternoon. As this happy home fills up, we are so pleased
to be able to carry on the atmosphere, and quality, and to care
for more residents. This location offers 5 bedrooms and 2 fully accessible bathrooms. Our homes are in quiet residential neighborhoods, and all of our renovations and accessibility modifications are designed to be as unobtrusive as possible. From the inside and out, the Caring Cottage looks and feels like home.

I am so happy that I finally had the time to take my girl Maggie out. We went for a ride and drive thru lunch at BK Root beer.Coney dog and of course root beer was what we ordered and it sure hit the spot.

We had to celebrate Mother’s Day ahead of time since we are leaving for IU Bloomington.Joshua’s graduation is on Friday.

The mothers in the Brandel home were celebrated through a day filled with thoughtful activities. Rolo pretzel bites were crafted, and carnation flowers were laid in the table to arrange in their individual vases. The ladies were served apple celery salad and petite hot sandwiches for lunch.Various flavors of cupcakes and flower-shaped cookies served as desserts.A round of scrabble game was played to complete the celebration.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Rita into our home. The other ladies are excited about meeting her and celebrating this occasion. I took the opportunity to bake her favorite banana cake, the recipe for which was kindly shared with me by Hannah Moskwinski Her family thoughtfully brought her preferred indulgence, cream sherry.

We are delighted to welcome Sue to the Martin Lane location. She arrived yesterday and enjoyed her welcome cake today. Chona and I look forward to playing scrabble with her as game nights will be a regular event. Sue also enjoys reading mystery books and watching black and white films.

The therapeutic activity, initially planned to involve sorting and matching vintage earrings, organically transitioned into a search for vintage hats in the basement, and subsequently bringing a mirror to the table, where Rosemary was applying lipstick, resulting in the ladies thoroughly enjoying themselves.

We bid farewell to our dear friend Cheryl, who has passed on to be with the Lord. We will miss her a lot.

Denise and Deanne, her daughters, graciously gifted her clothes to the ladies, which enabled me to set up “Cheryl's Closet”. The ladies were given the chance to peruse and pick items of their preference. In honor of Cheryl's memory, they are donning her clothes, applying makeup, and wearing earrings.
