Wednesday we had our all resident retreat at Silver Beach at Saint Joseph, MI. We started the morning morning playing charades with VERY specific and somewhat impossible prompts (thanks Dr. Pouliot). My favorite part was being able to reflect on the past year and hearing all the wonderful things that we have been up to.

We also got to spend time with our newest member to the residency (see the last slide 😉), and I think it’s safe to say he’s been the cutest addition to our fam.

Looking forward to more beach days with the buds 🌊☀️

This week some of our Memorial residents attended a Spine boarding and heat stroke training for athletic trainers in the area. Always excited for some Sports Medicine fun!

✨ Meet this week’s featured faculty member, Dr. Janel Charlton!
A leader and mentor to those around her! She was heavily inspired by this quote from Memorial’s Mission Statement and Values: “We believe that residency should be a time of personal, spiritual, and professional growth and that, despite the often serious nature of what physicians do, residency should also be fun.”
She is involved in many aspects of this residency program. Some of them listed below:
She is the leader of the Inclusion Diversity Equity and Antiracism (IDEA) book club. Above are some of the books that have been featured in the last 2 years.
She is also the director for the refugee clinic here at Memorial. The map above shows the geographic distribution of where our refugee patients have come from in the first 4 years.
She also enjoys traveling with her family. (Check out that giraffe)
We’re grateful for faculty like Dr. Charlton who are committed to creating a supportive environment where residents can learn, grow, and enjoy the journey. 💙

WOW! Our new PGY-1s had an action packed week for orientation. Everything from Casting, OMT, responding to emergencies, etc. We are so lucky to have these smiling faces as part of the Memorial family.
You guys rock!! :)

Last Friday, June 12, the osteopathic residents at Memorial attended the first Michiana Osteopathic Collaboration in St. Joe, Michigan. They learned from attendings from 5 different residency programs and managed to find some time to goof off as well! We love OMT!

A few of our amazing DO docs were at the CCOM recruiting event yesterday! Did you know we have osteopathic recognition at our program and regularly incorporate osteopathic principles into teaching for DOs and MDs alike?
