👋 Meet Allen — Our Community Outreach Coordinator!

We’re excited to introduce Allen, who has joined the Dismas House & Hub team as our Community Outreach Coordinator!

Allen brings extensive experience in community outreach, leadership, mentoring, job placement, event planning, marketing, and working alongside diverse populations. Throughout his work in both Indiana and Michigan, he has built strong relationships with community organizations and professionals and has a passion for bringing people together around a common goal.

At the heart of Allen’s work is advocacy. He believes in building strong, healthy relationships, connecting people with opportunities and resources, and finding ways for organizations and communities to work together to create meaningful change.

Allen describes himself as open-minded, positive, detail-oriented, and someone who genuinely enjoys working with people.

We’re excited to have him on the Dismas team and look forward to seeing the relationships, partnerships, and opportunities he helps build throughout our community!

Why Someone Might Choose Tattoo Removal

Every tattoo tells a story—but sometimes, that story no longer reflects who someone is today.

People choose tattoo removal for many different reasons. Some may want to:
• Leave behind a gang affiliation.
• Move forward from a difficult relationship.
• Improve employment opportunities.
• Feel more confident in professional settings.
• Begin a new chapter in recovery or reentry.

There is no "right" reason. The decision is deeply personal.

At Dismas, we believe growth means having the freedom to move forward on your own terms. Sometimes, that includes letting go of something that no longer represents the person you've become.

💚 You don't have to go through grief alone.

Grief is different for everyone.

It can come from the loss of a loved one, but it can also stem from the end of a relationship, incarceration, recovery, trauma, changes in health, loss of a job, or other major life transitions. Whatever your experience, your grief is real—and you don't have to carry it alone.

Beginning Thursday, September 17, we're honored to partner with Dustin's Place to offer a grief support group at the Dismas Hub.

This group provides a safe, welcoming space where adults can:
🌱 Process grief at their own pace
💬 Connect with others who understand
🎨 Participate in activities, art, discussion, and reflection
❤️ Learn healthy tools for navigating grief
🤝 Discover that healing and hope can exist together

Whether your loss is recent or years ago, whether it's visible to others or something you've quietly carried for a long time, you're welcome here.

Registration is preferred but not required.

🏋️ Carry On

Obstacle: Sandbag Carry

We all carry something.

At the Road Home Challenge, one of the obstacles is the Carry On—a sandbag carry.

For many people returning home from incarceration, the weight they carry goes far beyond what you can see. It may include trauma, stigma, financial obligations, rebuilding relationships, recovery, mental health challenges, and the consequences of past decisions.

That weight is real.

So is the strength it takes to keep moving forward.

Reentry isn't about pretending the past didn't happen. It's about finding the support, opportunities, and community that help make the journey a little lighter.

Every obstacle overcome is another step toward home.

This apartment is part of Dismas House of Indiana's housing program and is reserved for households that include someone who is justice-impacted.

At Dismas, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity for a fresh start—on their own terms.

Thanks to the generosity of a local donor, Dismas House now has $20,000 available in tattoo removal scholarships to help remove financial barriers for individuals who are ready to take that next step.
