What a summer…

This year’s summer internship class continued to raise the bar for what we look for at Soma VT for internship candidates and eventual coaching practices.

Julia, Tyler and James showed up early, asked questions, tried new things and became a part of our team in just 12 weeks.

The fitness industry can be unforgiving for new coaches. It can be competitive, with challenging schedules and uncertain career growth leading to a high burnout rate.

Having an early experience being surrounded by coaches who care where young professionals can make mistakes, learn from them and become awesome practitioners is one of our primary goals with our internship at Soma VT.

Full disclosure, we have also hired directly out of the internship as the majority of our team are past interns who have become accomplished coaches within our field.

We are lucky to have these awesome young professionals joining our team, even if it’s for just a few months in the summer.

Thank you James, Julia and Tyler for making the 2026 summer internship one to remember!

A big thank you goes to our development manager, Sam O, for leading yet another cohort of young professionals. Great work Sam!

Why do we do all these exercises anyway?

For many of us, we need to exercise so that we can show up for ourselves and others in life.

Grocery shopping, housework, gardening, and avoiding those whacky falls that can derail a whole summer top the list in this video.

According to the CDC (if you are into that sort of thing), one in four adults over 65 falls each year with 37% of those falls resulting in an injury requiring medical treatment.

As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention can beat a pound of cure. Putting in some time building strength, stability and coordination at any age can help us out in the long run.

What can building strength do for you?

Special thanks to Coach Julia for putting this post together, if you want to see more of her work, send us a message or leave a comment with topics you want us to do!

Julia stopped filming at 1pm for this video, so it doesn’t show the extra work that she put in going through standard operating procedures, reviewing her notes and preparing for her next day at the gym.

The majority of the work done by a young fitness professional can go unnoticed. Reading research, reviewing anatomy and physiology, editing programs, collecting feedback, practicing exercises and coming up with new cues only scratches the surface of how a new trainer can differentiate themselves.

It is that unnoticed work that can be all the difference in helping a trainer succeed within the health and fitness industry!

We are lucky to have such an awesome summer intern class in 2026! Insta takeover from the Soma VT interns coming soon!

If you or someone you know is interested in a fitness internship opportunity, send a résumé and cover letter to [email protected].

Staff Spotlight!

Amber has coached with Soma VT for two years, helping to build a culture of respect, effort and curiosity through her coaching and collaboration with the Soma VT team.

Amber is constantly seeking to improve her coaching skill set through continuing education courses, reflection and gathering feedback to act upon.

She specializes in empowering people to pursue strength training and cardiovascular endurance.

“All of the staff are really friendly and inclusive, Amber is my girl though!”

- Soma VT member -

When Amber isn’t coaching, she’s raising two awesome kiddos and taking on fitness challenges that many of us never even contemplate! Notably, a 30-mile haunted trail run coming up this fall…

Wait, there's two Branbury Classics this year?

On June 28th, A few Soma VT staff and members will be taking on the Vermont Sun triathlon or Branbury Classic!

This will be the third year running with and co. Thank you for the inspiration Shelley!

There's still time to join us. We recommend practicing for the paddle portion so that you don't finish dead last like .guild did... See photo 3 for photo evidence.

Have fun this summer!

Member shout out!

Meet Sam.

Ohhh, if we had the words to describe Sam.

Sam has been training for over 9 years with coach Sam. Even with a hectic work schedule, Sam still fights tooth and nail to show up. He always says “I need to come in, because I need to…and it makes me feel better.”

He has shown that life can be challenging, but even with those challenges, you can still make time for yourself.

Meet Tori!

Tori is a powerhouse - an all-year-round two sport athlete, field hockey ref, business owner, and mama - she brings the heat to every workout!

She’s been training consistently at Soma for 2.5 years and to be a part of her journey has been such a rewarding experience. She continuously shows up whether working through an injury, rehabbing from a major surgery or living day-to-day with chronic illness - and you’d never know it from the outside looking in.

Thank you Tori, for showing us what dedication and a love for the game looks like!
