As WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals celebrates 80 years of serving our community, we’re celebrating the people whose dedication has helped shape our story.
Meet Melodie Saunders, RN, Charge Nurse on 4P Cardiac Med/Surg at Thomas Memorial Hospital. In May, Melodie celebrated an incredible 45 years of service with Thomas.
She initially joined Thomas because of the scheduling flexibility, but it was the people who made her stay.
“I have built meaningful relationships with colleagues and patients alike. Medical-Surgical nursing became my professional niche, and I never felt the need to pursue opportunities elsewhere.”
Over 45 years, Melodie has witnessed tremendous growth—from increased staffing and facility renovations to expanded services, cardiothoracic surgery and the development of hospitalist, advanced practice provider and rapid response teams.
Through it all, she has remained committed to learning, growing and supporting those around her.
“I am most proud of my work ethic and my continued commitment to learning.”
Melodie also takes pride in mentoring and supporting future generations of nurses, sharing the knowledge she has gained throughout her career.
Her advice to those beginning their careers is simple: “Never be afraid to ask questions—seeking clarification is essential to growth and patient safety.”
For 45 years, Melodie has been more than a nurse—she has been a mentor, teammate and trusted caregiver to countless patients and families.
Thank you, Melodie, for 45 years of dedication, compassion and service to Thomas and our community. ❤️
