After a lifetime of working heartily, staying active, and serving others, David Timothy Hannon, 77, hung up his hat and is no longer available for earthly service to his family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. Having faithfully spent his life helping those around him, David moved on to be with his Lord and Savior on June 1, 2026. He will reunite with the love of his life, Linda Eileen Ray Hannon, who preceded him in death in 2012 after 44 years of marriage and with Karen Lee.

While his work here is complete, the legacy he leaves behind will continue through the family he loved so dearly. David was the proud father of David Timothy (Valerie) Hannon II of Soper, Oklahoma, and Kathryn Lynn (Dale) Nance of Apple Grove, West Virginia.

Known affectionately as PawPaw, Popsicle, and Grandpa, he leaves behind grandchildren Amanda Hannon of Fairmont, West Virginia; Kristen Hannon (Scott Combs and son Jeremiah) of Huntington, West Virginia; Jacob Hannon (Sidney and daughter Hallie) of Durant, Oklahoma; Skyler Nance (Lindsey) and LillyAnne Nance of Apple Grove, West Virginia; and Summer Nance (Zach) of Leon, West Virginia.

He is also survived by his brother, Steve Hannon of South Charleston, West Virginia.

David spent nearly his entire life in the Spring Hill and South Charleston communities. He was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church and retired from Dodson Pest Control after many years of dedicated service. Retirement did not slow him down. He thoroughly enjoyed visiting with friends, exercising, and sharing lunch at the South Charleston Community Center. David was looking forward to his 60th South Charleston High School reunion to visit with others whom he had lost contact with through the years. More than anything, David enjoyed taking care of people. Whether family, friend, neighbor, or stranger, he was always ready to lend a hand, share his time, or offer encouragement.

David's life was not measured by wealth or recognition but by the countless acts of kindness he performed and the many lives he touched along the way. He lived by the Lord's command to "Love one another as I have loved you". He leaves behind a family who loved him, friends who will miss him, and a community made better because he was part of it.

As David would likely prefer, rather than mourning that his hat has been hung up, let us be grateful for the many years he wore it well.

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the South Charleston Community Center Senior Lunch Program. Payable to City of South Charleston, 601 Jefferson Road, South Charleston, WV 25309.

A service to Honor the Life of David will be held at 11:00 am, Friday June 5, 2026 at Bethel Baptist Church, Kentucky Street, South Charleston, with Pastor Dave Lee officiating. Friends may visit at the church from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

Ruth Saunders Cogan, 93, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt passed away on May 30 at Edgewood Summit in Charleston after a long illness.
Born in Robinette, West Virginia in 1933, she was a lifelong resident of West Virginia. She graduated from Dupont High School and was offered a full scholarship to Marshall University, which she declined due to family obligations. Upon graduation she was employed at Sears, and later worked for Jefferds and Moore, and FMC.
Throughout her life, Ruth was devoted to and prioritized her family and faith. She was married to Harry Manning Cogan, III, for 50 years and together they made their home in Charleston, South Charleston, and Hurricane. Her greatest joy was being with her immediate and extended family. She is remembered for her loving, kind, and generous spirit, and for leading a life grounded in her Christian faith and love. Her life was a model of devotion.
She was a faithful member of Farrar Baptist Church and later attended the Bible Center Church. Knowing her was a blessing. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy. Through her living example, she instilled in others the values of honesty, integrity, empathy and gratitude, and has enabled us to live fully, embracing both great joy for her life and deep sorrow with her passing. Her family finds comfort knowing that, as her death approached, she was listening to the hymns she loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Cogan, III, her parents Golden and Mary Saunders, her stepfather, Elzie Ferrell; her siblings, Wayne Saunders, Lacy Saunders, and Goldia Raines; and step-siblings Virginia Pinson, Willard Ferrell, Norman Ferrell, Garland Ferrell, Walter Ferrell, and Charles Ferrell.

She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by many.

Shirley Anne Fritsch passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Thomas Memorial Hospital May 18th, 2026. Shirley is the daughter of the late Robert and Edith Dyer. Preceding her in death was her husband Ray, daughter Tina, and special son-in-law Anthony White.
Surviving Shirley in her death are three children, John (Tina), Joni, and Chuck (Jessica); five grandchildren, Adrienne, Donnie, Anthony, J.C., and Maria (Shane). five great grandchildren; Noah, Jay, Garrett, Cora, and Lydia. And a host of friends that were like family.
Shirley grew up in Boone County and was a hard worker since a child. She carried her work ethic into adulthood and enjoyed each job she had. Her job she held most of her adulthood was at Joe Holland, where she answered phones and interacted with customers. Some would call her the voice of Joe Holland as her voice was used as the automated phone message. Shirley was an animal lover, saving countless dogs and cats over the years. Her greatest love was for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would drop anything she was doing to be there for her family and offer her wisdom and advice. Beyond these things and the most important to her was her faith and love of God. Shirley was truly one of a kind and her spirit will live on in those that loved her.
A private family interment was held in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. The family will have a Celebration of Shirley’s life on June 20 from 12-2pm at the Charleston First Church of the Nazarene 200 Park Avenue, all are welcome.
