Friday, April 17th was an historic day for Green Road Pediatrics as Sherry, our much-beloved nurse, retired. You may well recognize her voice from our nurse advice line … calmly answering questions, giving thoughtful advice, providing reassurance, and facilitating prescriptions and the completion of forms of all kinds with her characteristic kindness and thoroughness. We will all miss her warmth, dogged work ethic, compassion, uncanny common sense – and perhaps more than anything -- her trademark hugs! Sherry has been a hugely important part of Green Road Pediatrics for the last seven years, and we are grateful and thankful for the time she spent devoting her talents to Green Road Pediatrics.

Of course, our nurse advice line will continue to be available, and luckily for us, we have an embarrassment of riches with our full-time RN’s, Megan and Allison, and Gayle, who is always eager to pitch in when needed!

A statement from American Academy of Pediatrics President, Dr. Susan J. Kressly:

The decision by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to downgrade its recommendations to protect infants from hepatitis B is a dangerous move that will harm children.

The American Academy of Pediatrics continues to recommend routine hepatitis B vaccination for all newborns: All babies should receive a first dose of the hepatitis B vaccine within 24 hours of birth, a second dose at one to two months, and a third dose at six months. The pacing of these doses has been rigorously tested and proven to be safe and effective over several decades.

Vaccinating all newborns against hepatitis B effectively prevents transmission of the virus to newborns during childbirth, supports them to build immunity against potential childhood infections, and ensures long-term protection into adulthood from a virus that can cause serious liver disease and liver cancer. Infants and children can be exposed to this virus by close caregivers who may not know they are infected. Delaying the birth dose of the hepatitis B vaccine has no clear benefits and leaves children vulnerable to infection.

The 2025-2026 flu and covid vaccine season is here!

We are now scheduling appointments for influenza vaccine clinics that will be continuing into the fall and early winter. Unfortunately, appointments cannot be made online, so please call the office at 216-382-3800 (option 2) to schedule. We are happy to vaccinate parents also (as long as they have been seen previously in the UH system).

If your child is overdue for a well visit, now is a great time to schedule -- we can administer the flu shot at any well visit and at most ill visits. Parents and siblings can be vaccinated at these visits too! Please let the receptionists know when you call to schedule whether you would like to add on any siblings or parents for vaccination.

We are currently scheduling appointments for the 2025-2026 Moderna Covid vaccine. We plan to have the vaccine available this fall and winter. Our plan is to follow the data-based recommendations put forth by the American Academy of Pediatrics, which recommends Covid vaccine for all children between 6 and 23 months old, all children with medical conditions that put them at high risk for severe Covid illness, and for anybody else who desires their child to be protected from Covid. It is unclear if insurers will pay for this year's Covid vaccine, but it is likely that most will. Please check with your individual insurance company to be sure.

We are looking forward to seeing you soon!

We hope our patients stay healthy now that they are back to school.
When they are not, here is a general guide to help figure out when they should stay home.

If your child isn't feeling well, our pediatrician-approved symptom guide can help you decide whether to keep them home.
