👟✨ Shoe tying doesn’t have to be one-size-fits-all! Every child learns differently, and finding the right method can make all the difference. 💙
In this video, we’re demonstrating three effective shoe-tying techniques:
🎀 One-Loop Method – Great for simplifying the steps and promoting independence.
🐰 Bunny Ear Method – A fun, visual approach that’s easy for many children to remember.
🌈 Color-Coded Method – Uses colored laces or markers to provide visual cues, making sequencing and motor planning easier.
Shoe tying is more than just a life skill—it helps develop bilateral coordination, fine motor skills, hand strength, motor planning, visual-motor integration, and independence with daily living skills. Occupational therapists can adapt the learning process to match each child’s unique needs and learning style.

This simple setup packs in so many skills! 🃏 Children use both hands simultaneously to tap playing cards the number of times shown, challenging their bilateral coordination, visual-motor integration, attention, sequencing, and cognitive flexibility. Tasks that require both sides of the body to work together help strengthen communication between the two sides of the brain while encouraging focus, motor control, and coordination. The best part? It feels more like a game than therapy, making learning both engaging and fun!

This little matrix packs in so many visual perceptual skills! ✨

To complete each box, kids have to scan across the row and down the column, find where they intersect, and combine both shapes into one space. Along the way they’re practicing visual scanning, visual discrimination, visual attention, spatial relations, and visual memory while solving a fun little puzzle. 🧩

They’re building the visual processing skills needed for reading, handwriting, copying from the board, math, and other everyday classroom tasks.
