Dr. Sugely Chaidez Ubaldo was born on March 5, 1981 in Durango, Mexico and spent her childhood and adolescent years in South Gate, California. Thanks to her parents Alicia and Lorenzo Antonio, Sugely enjoyed a happy childhood alongside her siblings Maribel and Lorenzo Antonio. She attended Stanford Avenue and Montara Avenue elementary, South Gate Middle School, and graduated from South Gate High S
chool in 1999. Dr. Chaidez Ubaldo's academic accomplishments include a Bachelor of Science in Human Development, with minors in Health Care Social Issues and Spanish Literature from UC San Diego and a Master and Ph.D in Education from UC Santa Barbara. Dr. Chaidez Ubaldo's doctoral research investigated the obstacles faced by Latino students in their pursuit to attain a post-High School education. Her studies reviewed how students develop their personal identities as they move from high school to college, as well as how they can support the development of their communities. Dr. Chaidez Ubaldo successfully defended her dissertation and completed her Ph.D. Beside her many academic achievements, Sugely touched the lives of many through her many workshops and retreats about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. In 2006, she started "Bring on Health" with the intent to provide one-to-one consultations and support groups for those who wished to make lasting changes in their lives and loved ones. Sugely also worked as Director of Health and Support Program with the Diabetes Resource Center in Santa Barbara. There, she implemented bilingual programs and curriculum about diabetes prevention for families and individuals. Sugely discovered many worlds through the lives she touched; she embarked on "the road less traveled" and maintained lifelong friendships. Inspired by her sister Maribel, Sugely saw the richness in traveling, dancing salsa and to be a lifelong learner. Helping others to live a health and positive life are part of her legacy. She enjoyed hiking, running, long walks and deep conversations with her brother Lorenzo Antonio her closest friends. Until her last moments, Sugely lived her mission when gave life to four young adults by donating her vital organs. Sugely is survived by parents, siblings, nieces, nephews and her husband.
