Being at your child’s level and face-to-face with them during reading, playtime, or conversation helps them clearly see your facial expressions, mouth movements, and actions.

Sitting, kneeling, or lying down beside them shows you're engaged and participatory, potentially making interactions less intimidating. The opportunities for modeling language will also increase when you can clearly see what your child is attending to, looking towards, showing interest in, or engaging with.

When a child’s spoken language is delayed, we want to provide them with any and all other ways to communicate. Giving a child signs to communicate can be beneficial for so many reasons. One of the biggest benefits I’ve noticed is that using signs can reduce frustration when the child is unable to use spoken words. Introducing signs doesn’t mean we’re giving up on spoken language. It is often a bridge to help get there. Or can be a bridge to other means of communication (e.g., high tech devices).

Imagine coming to a road that is under construction and rather than be provided with an alternate route while the road is being worked on, you just had to stop there wait until they were done. Who knows how long it will take? Imagine your frustration level…🤍
