👀Changes that have been happening for years often become visible in our 40s.
🏋️♀️FITNESS:Lower metabolism, weight gain, muscle density loss and increased body fat that began in our 20s, usually begin to become noticeable in both men and women in their 40s. It’s not too late to get into a good exercise regimen or make adjustments according to your body’s changing needs.
🙄HORMONES: Estrogen and progesterone loss in women can cause period irregularity, hot flashes, vaginal dryness and other peri menopause symptoms; hair loss, brain fog and memory loss, and even affect bladder control. Symptoms are often mild and in early stages in our 40s but consult your doctor if they become disruptive. Treatments are available.
During the 40s, men’s bodies produce testosterone at declining rates. This leads to changes in physique as well as possible challenges with s*xual function. Talk to your doctor if these things become a concern. Treatments are available. Men’s risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes and prostate cancer also increase at this age. Talk to their doctor about regular screenings for these health issues.
👓 By mid 40s you may notice vision changes. A lot of people get reading glasses as near vision gets less focused due to presbyopia, or hardening of the eye’s lens. Get regular eye exams and follow your eye doctor’s advice to avoid straining your eyes further.
🪞Thinning, wrinkling, sagging skin also begin to become more noticeable in our 40s. Ethnicity and heredity affect rates of aging on but everyone should be cleansing, moisturizing and wearing sunscreen daily; consuming nutritious foods and drinking plenty of water. This not only combats the primary causes of aging skin but also helps prevent skin cancer. Skin cancer becomes more likely as we age in ALL ethnicities.
