What if being harder on yourself isn’t helping? Researcher Dr. Kristin Neff (), a pioneer in the field of self-compassion, has spent decades studying what actually helps us navigate stress, setbacks, and difficult moments. The answer isn’t more self-criticism—it’s learning to treat ourselves with the same kindness we’d offer someone we love.

Here are 5 simple ways to practice self-compassion in under 10 seconds:

✨ Talk to yourself like you would a friend
✨ Ask: “What do I need right now?”
✨ Remember that struggle is part of being human
✨ Rest before you’re completely depleted
✨ Place a hand on your heart and take a slow breath

Small moments of self-kindness can have a powerful impact on resilience, emotional well-being, and how we move through our day.

Which one are you practicing today?

Muscle is about a lot more than aesthetics. It’s one of the biggest predictors of how well we age. Research shows adults begin losing muscle mass as early as their 30s, with women often experiencing accelerated loss during perimenopause + menopause due to hormonal changes. Without strength training, we can lose 3–8% of muscle mass per decade, impacting balance, bone density, metabolism, mobility, posture, joint support, and overall longevity.

Strength work also supports:
✨ healthier aging
✨ better balance + stability
✨ improved bone health
✨ insulin sensitivity + metabolic health
✨ reduced risk of injury + falls
✨ brain health + mood regulation

Enter Barre-Style Mat Conditioning. This dynamic 45-minute class blends strength-building postural yoga with smaller, targeted barre-inspired movements to challenge muscles in a mindful, sustainable way. Using props like bands, blocks, movement drills, and static holds, you’ll build strength, endurance, flexibility, and body awareness—all while staying connected to breath. Offered 3x/week:

1️⃣ Wednesdays at 12pm in South Portland w/ Gretchen
2️⃣Thursdays at 6AM in Falmouth w/ Kelsey
3️⃣ 4pm in South Portland w/ Kelsey

Perfect for anyone looking to build functional strength, support long-term mobility, and feel stronger in everyday life.

Move, breathe, and give back to the next generation of bold hearts. 🤍 Join Danielle + Emily for a special fundraising workshop supporting Girls on the Run Maine, whose research-based programming helps young people build confidence, emotional awareness, empathy, connection, and lifelong skills for well-being. Their Spring 2026 Season Celebratory 5k takes place in Topsham on May 31st!

This year’s theme, *Bold Heart*, reminds us that real strength comes from sharing what’s in your heart—and helping others do the same.

Together, we’ll spend the workshop evening slowing down through deep stretch, breathwork, massage ball release, and sound healing designed to calm the nervous system and create space for physical + emotional release.

Expect supportive floor-based movement, grounding breath practices, soothing sound vibrations, and an extended savasana to fully rest and reset.

Tune Up massage balls are designed for self-myofascial release—a technique that helps hydrate tissue, release tension, improve mobility, and increase body awareness by applying gentle, targeted pressure to muscles + fascia. They can help reduce stiffness, improve range of motion, support recovery, and calm the nervous system.

In this reel, Danielle demonstrates one simple release for the base of the skull + upper neck—an area where many of us hold tension from screens, stress, driving, posture, and daily life. By gently working with the small muscles at the back of the head, you may notice less neck tightness, fewer tension headaches, easier breathing, and an overall sense of relaxation.

It’s one of those practices that can feel surprisingly small… but make a big difference.

16 years of practice. 16 years of community.💚

What began as a space to move + breathe together has grown into thousands of shared practices, conversations, deep exhales, friendships, tears, laughter, savasanas, and moments of remembering ourselves.

To every teacher who has held space with steadiness, care, wisdom, and authenticity—and to every practitioner who has walked through our doors, rolled out a mat, and trusted the practice—thank you. GPY exists because of you.

Yoga has always been more than exercise. Traditionally, the practice was designed to help quiet the fluctuations of the mind and create a deeper connection between body, breath, and awareness. Modern science now continues to affirm what practitioners have known for centuries: mindful movement and breathwork can support nervous system regulation, reduce stress hormones, improve mobility and strength, increase emotional resilience, and foster connection and well-being.

Again and again, we witness the power of people simply showing up—for themselves and for one another.

Thank you for helping make Greener Postures what it is today. We are endlessly grateful to keep practicing alongside this community.

Here’s to 16 years—and the many breaths ahead. 🌿

Then + now… and the science still says the same thing: your body was designed to move. ✨

Research consistently shows that mobility work + strength-based movement support:
• healthier joints + connective tissue
• improved balance + coordination
• reduced risk of injury + chronic pain
• better circulation + posture
• increased muscular strength + stability
• nervous system regulation + stress reduction
• improved cognitive function, mood, + energy

In other words: movement helps us function better physically and mentally.

Kate’s Stretch + Mobility class blends mindful strengthening, mobility drills, balance work, stretching, + breath awareness to help you move through life with more ease, support, + resilience.

This isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about building a body that feels good to live in.
