ometimes a new scientific idea begins with a simple observation.

A pattern that doesn’t fit.
A question no one is asking.
A result that shouldn’t have happened—but did.

A newly published feasibility trial of ketogenic therapy in anorexia nervosa adds to a growing body of research exploring the relationship between metabolism, brain function, and psychiatric symptoms.

The study found that ketogenic therapy was feasible in adults with weight-restored anorexia nervosa and was associated with improvements in eating disorder symptoms, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and daily functioning.

The study is small. And it is not the final answer.

But it is another signal that we may need to think differently about psychiatric disorders—not simply as disorders of thought, behavior, or willpower, but also as conditions influenced by brain energy metabolism and signaling, neurobiology, and physiology.

Every major shift in medicine begins with curiosity.

This work reminds us that some of the most important breakthroughs happen when we are willing to ask new questions—and follow the evidence wherever it leads.

Frank et al. evaluate the safety and clinical effects of a weight-maintaining ketogenic therapy in adults with anorexia nervosa who were either mildly underweight or weight-restored. The ketogenic therapy is well tolerated and associated with significant improvements in both eating disorder-specific...

This is not a practice where care is assigned automatically. It is a place where context matters, readiness matters, and timing matters.

Some arrive seeking clarity. Others after years of searching. Some sense something shifting in their system — and don’t want to ignore it.

There is no automatic next step. There is only the right one. ☀

If it feels aligned to move forward, we talk together about what that might look like.

For some individuals, engagement remains educational and consultative — focused on interpretation, understanding, and strategy, often alongside local medical care.

For others, medical evaluation and treatment may be appropriate and offered, within licensure and scope, when I believe it can be provided responsibly and effectively.

The first step is a conversation. Start one today>> https://www.touchpoints180.org/

When you work with Touchpoints180, you gain access to that kind of space. A place where complexity is welcomed, where questions matter, and where understanding unfolds at the pace your mind and body can actually integrate it.

This is what people are describing when they talk about feeling “seen.” It’s not therapy. It’s scientific interpretation grounded in genuine care for your wellbeing.

Do you struggle with symptoms of metabolic dysfunction, like erratic blood sugars, weight gain around the waist plus everywhere else? Depression, anxiety, brain fog? Maybe PTSD, OCD, or bipolar disorder?

Perhaps you haven’t realized that these conditions are metabolic, just as diabetes is. If not, you may not realize your symptoms can lift with a personalized, consistent, ketogenic diet that brings you into therapeutic nutritional ketosis.

Lori Calabrese, MD extols the far reaching benefits of ketogenic metabolic therapy (KMT) and how it can improve your mood and your health.

Your metabolism is doing more than most people realize.

It’s not just about weight—it plays a role in how you feel day to day. Your energy, your ability to focus, your memory, even your mood can all be influenced by how your body is processing and using fuel.

When things feel off—like brain fog, fatigue, or feeling out of balance—it’s not always “just in your head.” Sometimes it’s your body asking for more support, more rhythm, more care.

Small shifts can matter. Consistent sleep. Nourishing food. Movement that feels good instead of forced.

Honored to share my patient-centered approach to high cholesterol on keto with Metabolic Mind

- Investigating deeper cardiovascular risk markers
- Exploring potential underlying causes, including familial hypercholesterolemia
- Collaborating across specialties, including cardiology
- Prioritizing both psychiatric recovery and long-term health

In metabolic psychiatry, context matters. Lab values don’t exist in isolation, and neither do patients.

The Cholesterol Code, a new documentary that follows a specific group of individuals known as Lean Mass Hyper-Responders, whose bodies respond to ketogenic therapy with a dramatic rise in LDL, while nearly every other metabolic marker improves.

The documentary doesn’t have all the answers, but it presents a new framework for assessing heart health and offers an important perspective of individuals who have experienced life-changing healing from ketogenic therapy.
