Congratulations to Bridget Rogers, a third-year medical student completing her clinical rotations at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, on being named an Everyday Champion by the New York Mets and Guardian! ⚾️

The award recognizes individuals making a meaningful difference in their communities. Bridget was recognized for her work supporting the mental health and wellness of children and families affected by pediatric cancer and medical vulnerability.

As a pediatric cancer survivor herself, Bridget has turned her experiences into a mission to help fill gaps in mental health support for families facing similar challenges.

A born-and-raised Long Islander, Bridget is now continuing her journey to becoming a physician right here in the community. Reflecting on her time at SBSH, she says, “I’ve received such incredible, hands-on opportunities where I feel like an integrated part of the medical team and find myself incredibly supported in developing into a future physician.”

We’re proud to have Bridget learning and growing with us at SBSH—and even prouder to celebrate the difference she is already making in the community.

On Saturday, August 1, the Southampton Hospital Foundation’s 68th Annual Summer Party celebrated the extraordinary work happening every day at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital and the lives touched through compassionate, high-quality care. The event raised more than $1.8 million to support the hospital’s continued growth, helping expand access to exceptional care and ensuring patients across the East End can receive the care they need, close to home.

We were proud to be a sponsor of this year’s Race of Hope 5k Run & Walk with Hope for Depression Research Foundation and provide on-site medical services to help keep participants safe throughout the event. ☀️ 🥵 Heat stroke is a true medical emergency—and with some of the hottest days of summer still ahead, knowing the warning signs can make all the difference.

As we head into August, the heat isn’t over yet. Here’s what you can do to help prevent heat exhaustion:
💧 Stay hydrated throughout the day—even before you feel thirsty.
🧢 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and a hat when outdoors.
🌳 Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning, especially during peak afternoon heat.
⚠️ Watch for early warning signs like heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, muscle cramps, headache, or weakness.

🚨 If symptoms progress to confusion, fainting, seizures, loss of consciousness, or a high body temperature, seek emergency medical care immediately. Heat stroke can become life-threatening if not treated quickly, which is why having access to emergency care close to home is so important.

For the past four years, Cristine has made a lasting impact on the patients, families, and colleagues at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital through her compassion, advocacy, and unwavering dedication as a social worker.

This recognition is not only an honor, but also a reminder that the compassion and dedication I bring to my role make a difference in the lives of the patients and families I serve."

Her colleagues say it best—Cristine's kindness extends far beyond her daily responsibilities. She developed a program for extended-stay patients that brought comfort through books, walks, and meaningful connection, helping many feel like family during their hospital stay. This year, she also launched a bereavement support group, providing a safe and supportive space for individuals and families grieving the loss of a loved one who received inpatient Palliative Care services at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.

Thank you, Cristine, for leading with empathy, creating meaningful connections, and making a difference in the lives of so many. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
