PSA To All New Moms
As a pediatric physical therapist and a mom of 4 kids, I am here to tell you that you’re doing enough!
In the newborn stage, the focus should be on building a connection with your baby.
Tummy time on your chest gives your baby many benefits beyond strengthening. They are studying your facial features, listening to your voice, skin to skin contact helps them regulate their temperature, the pulse of your heartbeat comforts them.
You are already cuddling with your baby all day long and not even thinking about this position counting as tummy time! Give yourself some credit and focus on bonding before introducing more challenging activities like floor play! There will be plenty of opportunities for that later.
As your continue to recover postpartum and baby continues to become stronger, tummy time should increase in challenge by placing baby on flat surfaces and increasing the time spent in this position.
Did you know that by 4 months of age, a baby is expected to spend 45-60 minutes a day playing on their tummy?
Save this milestone for later and share with a mom!
