Today, I’m not posting as the therapist. I’m posting as Angie…the human being.

The past month has brought more loss than my heart feels prepared to carry.

And then Sunday came.

I lost a woman who was never “like” a second mother to me. She was my other mother. That is the only way I know how to describe what she meant to me.

You couldn’t tell me I wasn’t her child. Her children are my siblings. Their children are my nieces and nephews. There was never a need for blood to define what we were to one another. Love had already done that.

And this loss hurts. Deeply.

Perhaps one of the hardest parts about grief is that it rarely arrives alone. Sometimes a new loss reaches backward and touches every place in you that has ever had to say goodbye.

So while I am grieving her, I find myself grieving my grandmother all over again. I find myself touching places of grief surrounding my father that I thought I had learned to live around. Memories, emotions, questions and feelings that had become quieter suddenly have a voice again.

And yes… I’m a therapist. I have sat with people through some of the most painful moments of their lives. I understand grief. I know the terminology. I know the stages aren’t linear. I know the coping skills. I know what I would say to someone sitting across from me experiencing exactly what I am experiencing right now.

But knowing about grief does not exempt you from having to feel it.

Right now, I am feeling it.

And maybe that is what I want people to understand most.

Life is precious. It is fragile. And sometimes we move through it as though we have unlimited time with the people we love.

We don’t. And as I navigate this season of grief—some of it new and some of it resurfacing—I am giving myself permission to do something I encourage others to do every day:

Feel what I feel.

No rushing it.
No intellectualizing it.
No pretending I’m okay because I know how grief works.

Just allowing myself to be human.

Because before I am Dr. Angie, the therapist who helps other people carry difficult things…

I am Angela., , a woman who is grieving someone she loved very, very much.

Maybe she didn’t change the man—maybe she changed the rules.

Sometimes what looks like “he finally stopped cheating” is really a relationship shifting into a dynamic where certain behaviors are now accepted, negotiated, or simply no longer questioned. And while an open relationship can work when both people genuinely agree to it, it becomes something entirely different when the man is free to explore while the woman is still expected to remain exclusive.

That isn’t automatically openness. Sometimes it’s just a double standard with a new title.

So the real question is: Did the relationship become healthier, or did one person simply remove their boundaries to keep it together?

No judgment—just conversation. What do you think?

Everything isn’t always glitz & glamour.

Sometimes it’s a bonnet.
Sometimes it’s cold coffee.
Sometimes it’s late nights, early mornings, canceled plans, and praying when you’re too tired to say much at all.

People celebrate the polished moments, but they rarely see the discipline behind them.

They don’t see the therapy sessions that leave me emotionally full.
The businesses that still need me after hours.
The grandson who reminds me what really matters.
The ideas written down at midnight.
The sacrifices no one applauds.
The faith that keeps carrying me when my tank is running on empty.

Success isn’t built in the spotlight.
It’s built in the quiet moments when nobody is watching.

So yes… you’ll catch me in a bonnet.
Because purpose doesn’t require a full face of makeup.
Healing doesn’t clock out.
Leadership doesn’t sleep.
And impact isn’t measured by how glamorous the journey looks.

It never was about looking perfect…
It has always been about staying committed.

Protect your peace. Stay focused. Keep building.

🖤 Healing people. Building dreams. Leaving legacy.

Not every consequence is attached to something you did.

Sometimes it’s attached to someone you dismissed.
Someone you betrayed.
Someone you used.
Someone you hurt while believing you’d never have to answer for it.

Life has a remarkable way of bringing us face to face with the very energy we’ve released into the world.

The conversations you ignored.
The loyalty you took for granted.
The bridges you burned.
The hearts you bruised.

Nothing truly disappears. Energy has a way of completing its circle.

So be mindful of how you treat people when you think there’s nothing to gain from them. Today’s choices have a way of introducing themselves again tomorrow.

Protect your character. Your reputation may open doors, but your character determines what waits for you on the other side.

Be careful of the access you cause yourself to lose… you just might not get it back.”
Everyone isn’t replaceable—but neither is the access they once gave you.
Some people stop explaining.
Some stop reaching out.
Some stop fighting for the relationship.
And some simply close the door… quietly.
When someone changes the level of access they give you, don’t always assume it’s pride or anger. Sometimes it’s peace. Sometimes it’s self-respect. Sometimes it’s the lesson you taught them.
Value the people who trust you enough to let you into their lives. Once that access is gone, don’t assume it’s waiting for you when you’re ready.

Too many dreams die because we keep giving ourselves too many exits.

The moment you remove the backup plans, the excuses, and the distractions, your focus becomes unstoppable.

Keep your eyes on the end goal.
Silence the noise.
Trust the process.
Stay committed until the work is finished.

The goal isn’t to start strong…
It’s to finish stronger.

Happy Father’s Day 💙

Today, we celebrate the men who show up.

The men who sacrifice in silence.
The men who protect, provide, teach, encourage, and love.
The men who wipe tears, tie shoes, answer late-night calls, and stand firm when life gets hard.

To the fathers by birth…
The fathers by choice…
The grandfathers who became dads…
The stepfathers, mentors, coaches, uncles, and father figures…

Thank you.

Thank you for your strength.
Thank you for your guidance.
Thank you for your presence.

The world needs good men, and today we honor those who lead with integrity, compassion, and love.

May you know that your sacrifices matter, your efforts are seen, and your legacy is being written in the lives you touch every day.

Happy Father’s Day to the kings who continue to show up and stand tall. 👑

With love,
Dr. Angie D ❤️

Juneteenth is not just a date on the calendar.

It is the echo of ancestors who refused to give up.
It is the courage of those who dreamed of freedom before they ever experienced it.
It is the strength that lives in us today because they endured yesterday.

Today, I honor the journey.
I honor the struggle.
I honor the resilience woven into our history and carried through our generations.

May we never forget that freedom was fought for, dignity was demanded, and greatness was inherited.

We stand because they stood.
We rise because they rose.
We build because they believed.

Happy Juneteenth. ❤️🖤💚
