When most people think of birth, they think of laying in a bed with someone on either side holding a leg. When I think of birth, I think of laborers reclined in a pool relaxing deeply in the moments between contractions, squeezing between the bed and the wall, squatting on the birth stool, the power exuded while standing over the toilet and I just think of babies coming wherever babies come.
In my experience it's been about 50/50 for land and water birth, but this is one of my favorites. This rockstar was waiting intently for the water to fill and was determined to have a water birth when labor shifted quickly and baby decided to come next to the pool. This image forever etched in my memory of when she reached in and found the smallest sliver of peace in at least having her one hand in the water. (Happy Birthday, sweet friend)
