We are excited to introduce Dr. Edwin Spencer as the Director of our Performance Medicine Department!

Dr. Spencer's career speaks for itself. He was inducted into the American Shoulder and Elbow Society in 2006, has been cited over 40 times in original research and 52 times in peer reviewed publications, and has authored chapters in 6 orthopedic surgery textbooks. His work on 8 different surgical product designs has earned him 2 US patents, and in 2024, he reached one of the highest honors in his field: induction into the Neer Circle of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons.

Beyond the credentials, Dr. Spencer is a devoted husband to his wife Tracey, a proud father of two, and an active member of his church community. After years as a pillar of the Knoxville community, he's ready to bring that same heart and dedication to North Texas.

Now, he's teaming up with our chiropractic and neuromuscular massage therapy specialists to launch something new: Performance Medicine! Whether you're recovering from an injury, managing ongoing pain, or working to perform at your best, our team has you covered from every angle.

🔬 Study Overview

Researchers conducted the COSMOS study with 958 participants (482 women, 476 men) over 2 years to investigate whether daily multivitamin-multimineral (MVM) supplementation could slow biological aging by measuring five DNA methylation epigenetic clocks🧬

💡 Key Findings

Daily MVM supplementation modestly slowed the rate of biological aging, with a yearly reduction of 0.113 years for PCGrimAge (p = 0.017) and 0.214 years for PCPhenoAge (p = 0.032) compared to placebo 📉, with stronger effects observed in participants with accelerated baseline aging 💪

🎯 Clinical Implications

While the statistically significant effects of daily MVM supplementation on slowing biological aging are encouraging, additional research is needed to determine the clinical relevance of these epigenetic changes and whether they translate to meaningful improvements in age-related chronic disease prevention 🔬
