Food poisoning comes from contaminated food or drink, while a stomach bug is caused by a virus that spreads person to person. The clearest way to tell them apart? How quickly you got sick. Food poisoning typically strikes within hours of a meal, while a stomach bug takes a day or two to develop after exposure. Stay hydrated, rest up, and seek care if symptoms are severe or lasting longer than expected.
