3D Ultrasound imaging of the breast is a powerful new technology that uses sound waves to produce three dimensional pictures of the internal structures of the breasts. Instead of a flat 2d image of the breast, this technology gives a much more realistic view of the entire breast. It offers views from side to side and front to back and also shows the layers of breast tissue. It was designed to capture the entire breast in one radial scan without operator interaction, so it eliminates the chance of the operator missing a section of the breast and not getting a complete image of all of the breast tissue or any lumps in the breast. A 3D Breast Ultrasound produces consistent and reproducible results. This technology is capable of visualizing abnormal anatomical features in dense breast tissue and providing 3D images to the radiologist for interpretation. Ultrasound is safe, noninvasive and does not use ionizing radiation or compression and squeezing like the mammogram.
