Wildfire ash can contain fine particles and hazardous materials that may irritate the eyes, skin and respiratory system.

If you are around ash or fire debris, take steps to protect yourself: keep children and pets away, wear appropriate protective clothing and a properly fitted N95 or P100 respirator, and avoid sweeping or using a regular vacuum, which can send fine particles back into the air.

If you develop severe or worsening trouble breathing, chest pain or other serious symptoms, seek medical attention.

As our community continues to recover from the recent wildfires, Northern Nevada Public Health is sharing important guidance for residents returning to fire-affected properties.

Ash and debris from damaged or destroyed structures can contain hazardous materials that pose serious health and safety risks. NNPH is advising residents not to begin debris removal at this time and not to touch, move or dispose of potentially hazardous materials.

Keep children and pets away from affected areas and continue to follow guidance from local public health, fire and emergency management officials.

A new milestone for Sierra Medical Center! 👏

Sierra Medical Center recently celebrated its first cochlear implant procedure, performed by otologic surgeon David Foyt, MD.

Cochlear implants can help patients with significant hearing loss better understand sound and communicate more easily. Dr. Foyt is a seasoned local surgeon with extensive experience in ENT surgery, implantable hearing devices and cochlear implantation.

We’re proud to celebrate this first for Sierra Medical Center and to partner with community physicians who are bringing advanced treatment options to patients in northern Nevada.

This week, ER at McCarran NW is celebrating six years of caring for our community!
Since opening its doors, the freestanding emergency department has provided 24/7 emergency care close to home for families in northwest Reno.
